Removing relays....

I want to eliminate a few relays in the engine to clean things up. IC Pump relay, A/C relay, and Boost Cut Out relay are the ones on the chopping block.

My question is this.....Do I need to remove the wires all the way back to their original destination or can I cut them at the relay and tape them off?

You can cut and cover them where ever you like, at the relay socket or as far back as you want. But, keep in mind these wires will still be live!

My advise, cut each wire on the relay socket to a different length. Then, bind and tape them together. This way there's no chance of a live wire coming into contact with a ground wire (cause they aren't parallel where the copper is exposed). Follow my logic?

You plan on using the relays in a different location right?? Relays are there for a reason. Alot of components need 12 volts to run but dont require the total amperage. Thats what the relay does. Gives 12v but only a minimal amount of amperage needed to turn on the specific part. Sometimes if a switching unit does not have a relay inline, you can burn it up because of too much amps.

Nope removing them altogether. I have no A/C and have no plans of putting it back. Aftermarket turbo and wastegate so no need for boost cutout relay. And A2A intercooler so no need for the IC pump relay. I understand the purpose of relays but if they aren't controlling anything they shouldn't be necessary??

I guess my question is two fold then. Do any of these 3 relays control anything else besides what they are designated for??

Definitely follow your logic :tup: These were my thoughts exactly but just wanted to double check!

I'm kinda looking for a good IC relay and a harness pigtail, if you want to part with them once you take them off...
