Hello. I had wanted a Typhoon or a Syclone since I was in high school (back when they were new) and I recently bought a '93 Typhoon. I've noticed that a lot of Sy/Ty owners know what "number" their vehicle is and I was wondering how to find out what number mine is. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the club!
Just look at the VIN plate on the driver's side dash at base of windshield.... it's the last 4 digits of the VIN number.

Here are the long awaited pictrues of my Typhoon. Now I have another dilema that I would like some help with. I bought this Typhoon at an auction (for $3500)a few weeks ago. It was sort of an impulse buy but I have wanted a Typhoon since they were new and it seemed like a deal. It's obviously a little rough but the mileage is lower (78k). It needs a front wheel and both front fender flare pieces as well as some paint and body work. There's a possibility that the frame is tweaked because the left front corner of the vehicle is a little higher than the right front and the left front wheel also rubs the inner fender at full left lock. Also, the door to fender gap is off. On the plus side, it runs like a champ, but the transmission is a little goofy. To get it to shift from 1st to 2nd, you have to rev it to around 4500 rpm's and as the rpm's drop, it shifts. All the other gears seem fine. It's a bit of a project.
Now here's the dilema: I filed the title paperwork shortly after I bought it, but the title never came. After a solid day of phone calls to various government agencies, I found out that it had been declared a salvage vehicle, but the previous owners never finished the paperwork. I can make the auction buy it back, but I would lose all the money and time that I've already put into it. Moslty it's just time cleaning it up, but I've also spent a couple hundred bucks on some odds and ends. The problems is that with a salvage title, I'm afraid it will never be worth what I will have to invest to finish it up. I didn't know when I bought it that the cladding and other Typhoon-speceific parts were so expensive and hard to find. I love the truck, but I think I might be better off giving it back top the auction and waiting for a better one. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My advice is to part it out. If you are a novice mechanic and you take your time removing everything (lots of deep creep) then you can make at least you money back. Do alot of research on your pricing and you can get top dollar. For example just of the top of my head- Complete short block- $800, Both intakes w/ throttle body- $400, Exhaust manifolds w/ dp- $300, Wire harness-$250, Good stack turbo-$250. Just to name a few. You can sell a good interior for about $1500, and in the process help alot of guys out on here that need parts. If you want to talk PM me.

Parting it out is going to take a bit of your time.
Can you try negotiating with the auction house ? Make it clear you will be making them buy it back at full hammer price, but would be willing to buy it back for salvage bad title price ?

are you talking about parts and stuff you can remove? or cleaners and stuff? If its stuff that can be removed, take it off, otherwise just take it as a loss.
you got that right :tup: Just looking at the pics and the description of the trans issue, youre looking at a minimum of $3000 in parts/labor assuming you only get the new parts painted and not a complete repaint. In the market right now, even in decent looking and running condition, youd be lucky to get $6000 for it.
yep, sucks doesnt it? and that front bumper cover and possibly the support look like they are beyond repair as well.
That is your best bet in my opinion as well. You didnt get taken to the cleaners persay, but $3500 is a bit high for that truck, frame, suspension, cladding, transmission, body issues & salvage title, I dont think I would have paid more than $1500 for it.

I would sell it back. a project like that will take a long while to fix. Save your pennies and buy a much nicer one later. Patience is the key. Very nice Sy/Ty 's come up for sell on the board all the time. Just my opinion.....

PLEASE don't part it out. I hate to see that happen to any sy/ty, even thought I need parts for my Ty. Sell it back to the auction company at the very least. That way, someone might have the chance to buy a cheap fixer upper. Or build it into a racer machine instead of using a 'good' Ty. I waited 15 years to get a Ty because they just cost more than I could spend. I finally found one a couple weeks ago at an auction in Denver. PM me and I can give you a few angles that you might be able to take to try to get this straightened out.
