New Exhaust for my JSM Downpipe

So, I've been running open dp for a very long time, I love the sound but its just too much volume on the highway. And rolling up the windows does nothing. I

Anyway, I found a local guy - the only in Orlando - that does Mandrel Bending.

He made me 3" mild steel pipe with 2 very small bends, a downturn bend before the axle and a flange to bolt up to the downpipe. I couldn't decide if I wanted a muffler or not, so he made me two pipes, one with and one without.

All for $270 out the door. All I can say is Hector at Exhaust Depot rules!

heres pics and videos:

Not too shabby welding, Hector's shop is no "muffler shop"

Got a number, or address for this place? I'm assuming they can do any type of pipe correct? Cause I'm going to need a place to do the IC piping when I get to that point.

Great find Ian!

Exhaustdepot.com... He's on Orange south of downtown. He's showed me some alum hes done, I guess its a little different then steel. As long as you give him enough warning, im sure he can get whatever materials you'll need.

So Ian's setup is pretty damn nice... the place that did it really did a great job over what you would typically see come from a typical "muffler" shop. It looks like the guy cares about his work, which to me (and I know Ian as well) is very important when it comes to putting things on our trucks.

I got to ride in the truck with the straight pipe and man, what a difference in sound. Instead of being concentrated into the cab, all the sound is in the bed. It still has a good sound, and you can hear the turbo singing alot better now. We can actually talk now in the truck without yelling at each other.

During our little drive, we came up to a Foxbody with D/Rs and skinnies who had his hood up in the median where we were doing a U-turn. Yelled out the window if he needed some help and got the reply - "Nope, just giving it more boost......thats a badass truck right there...." Gave him a wave and went down the road. Of course, next light, he's behind us....light goes green, I see him give it a bit of gas and get sideways a bit.....he pulls up next to us and ask how much boost we were running. Ian yells out 17psi, he was all grins and said he was trying to work out his manual controller. Little open section and Ian rolls into it with the guy....Ian starts pulling away hard as I hear the Foxbody scratching for grip and chirping on every shift.

Had to stop short since we came up on traffic, but Ian turns to me with a shit eating grin and says....

"He needed a little more boost...."

That mustang was crazy loud too... He was easily making more power then me, too bad he couldn't use it to his advantage.

That foxbody had some power behind it and probably would have been different if he was dialed in and got traction. Hopefully we'll catch him again around town.

Re: New Exhaust for my JSM Downpipe

anything for a ty?

Nope, but I'm sure he could do it, and would be happy to. I def would throw this guy as much business as he can handle, he's running a good little shop and deserves to be doing well.

He does plenty of walk in type stuff, but most of his business comes from building exhaust kits he sells on the net for SRT-4's.

If there is interest for ty exhaust or any other combos, I'd be glad to work with Hector to get something for you guys.

I wish I'd stayed around longer that day (I spent more time idling on I4 then I did in his shop), they were renting a '10 Camaro SS to build a kit for and I hadn't had a chance to see one up close yet.

On that note, another one of the shop guys had a turbo Genesis Coupe, which honestly is a pretty sweet car even if its not that fast. Its got a subtle appeal that feels more dramatic from the inside of the car. I was surprised at how much I liked it.

Saw the new SS briefly at a car show yesterday, before it started raining and everyone split. I really like the design, but when the owner started it up and pulled away....he might as well have been driving my Corolla. If I had one I'd be lining up for the custom exhaust. Not only to add to audio emphasis, but I'd guess a 30+ hp gain once the collection of cats comes off.
