I found a couple places that said something like "per eBay regulation you will need to provide me with blah blah blah proof of license. If you don't have a license, I will need a signed form saying you will be reselling it to a licensed tech."

i.e. covery my arse, but I really don't care either way.

CL eh? I'll have to dig around.

Guess I'm lucky to live 20 minutes away from the border. I can still get R12 for $8 a can in Mexico

does it have a shelf life?

My neighbor has a case of R12 from the late 80s in his garage and I told him not to trash it just yet!

I live in So. Cal and I just asked around and I found a shady looking shop that hooked me up. They recovered the old, vacuumed the system and then charged 2.5lbs of R12 and now my air is 60*. It was $40 per pound but, it was well worth it. $100+ tax out the door, no hassles.

Actually, it's been phased out since 1995 and illegal to posess since about 2001. You won't find any up here.
I've been using Dura Cool for 2 years now. Cheap, and effective. Evacuate, charge, drive. At $10.00 a can it's a lot cheaper than replacing the evap in my d/d. And anyone can buy it.

Re: R12 refrigerant cans from eBay - Any good?

134 is illegal in WI?! Really?! Thats crazy!

Its illegal to sell refrigerant to the general public in WI. Just go across the border to IL and walk into any Wal-Mart to get the kits, they go for $25. Be forewarned though- Those kits contain multiple refrigerants and oils, so they can be "compatible" with any system. A/C systems are the most sensitive of all the vehicle systems as to what goes in them. If you do use the stuff and later get the system recharged by a shop, TELL THEM that you put this crap in, otherwise if they don't check to see whats in it, their equipment will get contaminated. FTW, you need EPA 609 certification (plus any additional state requirements) to buy refrigerant and service automotive A/C systems, and EPA 608 is for everything else (Truck units, refrigerators, freezers, home HVAC, etc)
