torsion bars

I just torn apart the front susp. Put in new torsion mounts, upper and lower control arm bushing, shocks, upper and lower ball joints, idler arm, pitman arm,and inner and outer tie rod ends. The drivers side front is sitting 26 1/4 from ground to cladding, the passengers side is 27 1/2 from ground to cladding with the torsion screw set exactly the same. Do I have a worn out torsion bar or what. I haven't dealt with torsion bar suspension much but I would think they should be the same. I left the sway bar off until I get it to sit straight. Part if the reason for the rebuild was to fix this and I think I made it worse.

Any suggestion would be great. I want this done so I can start on the fun stuff.. The motor.

Thanks

Just adjust the bars until you have a level truck. Thats what the adjustment is there for. It's not like a coil spring where you can expect the same amount of travel as the coil binds. There are weight differences, manufacturing tolerances, installation tolerances, wear, and a plethora of other factors that are contributing. You're 1-1.4" difference isn't terribly huge, although more than I've seen in the past.

Adjust the bolts to put the front end at the height you want, and don't worry about it.

Re: torsion bars

Do you drive a black Ty? I've seen one in the Woodbury area a couple of times and it's a gorgeous piece of work. Nice to see another Minnesotan.

Anyway, just to add to what's already been said, make sure to have the alignment checked after touching the torsion bars, especially now since you've replaced all those steering components recently.

Re: torsion bars

Sorry I didn't check back after the other responses answered my question. Yes I live in woodbury and drive my black ty as often as I can. It has sat for a while now and I haven't driven it since I did all the work. It hopefully will go in for an alignment this week.
Thanks for the reply I don't see a lot of MN replies.

Re: torsion bars

Your bolts should be close. I think you need to take out the side that measures 261/4. I think that torsion bar was not installed correctly.you'll have to take the spindle off and make sure you bar is twisted in the same as the other side. Over an inch difference means one torsion bar is twisted in a little more than the other.
