Longest extention combo you can make with a swivel and come at it from where the transfer case is. I do this for both top ones and it take literally 5 seconds each with an impact
Yep, but if I remember correctly I had to drop the trans crossmember too and tilt the motor back towards the firewall.

sit on the upper intake and use a ratcheting wrench on it. or if you can get under the truck use like 4 feet of extensions and a wobble adapter at the end.

I know that I didn't have to drop the transmission crossover (I left the tranny in). Long extension and a swivel socket (not a swivel attached to socket).

Re: 1/8th mile shakedown

got it out.

IC is off, plenum came off, transfercase is out, crossmember off (of course), with the plenum off i figured i'd take the valve covers off and check the rockers. look good. almost took the DP off, but enough is enough.

your wrong Mike, i didnt need a step stool. i used this

Re: 1/8th mile shakedown

so 3200 would be a good stall. considering it was stalling at 2400. or should i think higher, like a 3400.

Re: 1/8th mile shakedown

well, it now launches at 8psi, 3300 rpms. more RPMs if i hold longer, more PSI if i pump the gas. stock brakes still hold.

when i launch, alot of weight transfer, and it pulls the front end hard to the left. i can feel the front tire spinning, but i'm not sure about the back.

i still have more tuning to do. running it really rich to be safe.

but overall, the truck is good now.

Watching your build is actually more fun to me than seeing someone just throw more parts at it. This is TUNING for sure. Good job the rewards will payoff.

If you want to know more history of that convertor let me know. I am not original owner but first one to use it, E got it from me. I recognized the dripped black paint on it. LOL

I never went fast with it, but good news is it never was hooked up to a trans that broke. When I sold it to E it was still very clean in terms of fluid that had gone through it.

the converter shop said the lining was worn. so they relined it, new bearings and restalled it. $200.

i believe the converter was also holding my RPMs down on the top end, cause now the truck shifts at 5400, right where the trans is built to shift.

It is going to be interesting to see what times you pull at the track next. I think you might suprise yourself.

so my converter's got a history. has it gone 10s before?

Sorry to say my best was a low 14. :(

That was back when I didn't realize what tuning was.

Re: 1/8th mile shakedown

the new stall pretty much inverted my VE graph. its now a huge valley, instead of the hill. i gotta take my 77x down abit to make the curve better.

my largest drop in VE was 15 points, average drop was 12 points, all in boost/powerband RPMs. First time i drove it after the converter, i hit 10afr at 5psi. lol it was WAY rich.

You mean something like the stall of a convertor would change the tune. No wonder why a chip from 1 truck won't always run like it should in another. EUREKA.
