Cladding sy and ty

Im wanting to do some fiberglass reproduction of the Sy and Ty cladding. I have the Sonoma GT cladding lined up to do in the next few months and will be selling it and want to do Sy and Ty stuff also. If anyone has any pieces that I can use to make a mold and return I would be grateful. I only want to use these to make my master mold from. No damage will be done to the parts. I will work with who ever lets me use the parts. Call or pm me please.

Re: Cladding sy and ty

I understand that but its extremely hard to find. Even aftermarket. Im wanting to make a set for me and have molds so I can do another set. I want to produce top quality pieces for Sy/Ty restorers and cloners. My clones will not be labeled as a Sy or Ty just something different in my area that no one has seen outside of these boards that i have showed them.

Re: Cladding sy and ty

How do you plan to do this?

Vac infused or hand laid? Using an autoclave or just letting it set up and dry? What are you going to make the pieces from....poly, VE, epoxy or?

What materials are you using to build the pieces....woven cloth, CSM, kevlar, etc....how many layers do you plan to use, what weight cloth?

Are you going to build the tabs into the molded piece, or are you going to attach them later?

Got any other previously fabbed pieces for us to look at?

Im asking these questions for all the people who might be interested. Unless someone knows fiberglass (there are a handful of us who do fiberglass/CF fab work on here), this is stuff they wouldnt think to ask and personally, I think is very important to know.

Tabs will be built in on all pieces. I use poly resin and choppod mat Fiberglass all hand laid. It will be 5 layers of 1.5 oz chopped mat. I may do some in carbon fiber later.

I do know that some of the mounting points on these pieces are very fragile and will look at adding more mounting points for those pieces.

I do not have my masters ready yet hope to have them done in November and start producing the Sonoma GT kits in time for christmas.

I need some good Sy/Ty kits to build those and get them started. All pieces will require some final fitting to insure best look.

its not hard to find, you just have to know where to look and/or who to contact, but its actually very easy to get. most people making clones dont wanna put up the cash for a body kit that costs more than their truck did initially, thats why its not all over the internet.

If youre gonna offer dirt cheap prices then by all means go for it, Id probably even buy some spare pieces. It seems everyone who does this now or who has attempted this in the past finds themselves in the same price range after all the work is done and eventually it goes nowhere because there isnt enough demand for 3+ vendors making the same part, not to mention the fact that many people on here (especially Sy owners) will wait till they find an OEM piece for their trucks.

just my :2cents:

this stuff is not cheap to make, theres a guy i know who makes snowmobile skis, the skis ae like 400+ a set, all hand poured pellets. granted there is some science in the design of these skis it is still not cheap to make them

Im hoping to be able to keep my price down a few hundred a kit compare to my competiors. Im also wanting to be very competively priced in the solo piece. I understand that most Sy owners will wait for oem.

No it is not but the reward is good for me to do a few kits for the Sy and Ty owners and the clones for people like me who cant afford a real one.

Re: Cladding sy and ty

To be honest, there really is no demanding market, especially for SGT pieces.....probably why there really isnt any real feedback in here. There's already an available source at a good price so youre pretty much trying to come into a market thats already been fullfilled. Not trying to deter you, but the money you would sink into make good molds to pull parts, would take awhile to recoop. :2cents:

And not being able to afford a real one.... dude, look around it's a buyers market. Good trucks are being sold left and right for smoking deals. Granted, some need a little TLC, but when you can score one for cheap, who cares.
