    10-1 chip carrier needed

Any of these still available? Got an intermittent connection somewhere, only item not swapped out is the Brian/Todd chip carrier. No chip needed, just the carrier. Thanks much - Barry

    Distributerless ignition with remote coils?

Ya know, come to think of it - the original SBC trigger wheel, inside the cam cover, had to be spaced out a bit also to clear the 2-row timing chain. Total stack came out to be 1/2" +/-. Your solution was *much* better! Hell, its done, not gonna un-do it.

    Distributerless ignition with remote coils?

Trigger wheel-wise, I ran into a slight glitch on my crank nose pulley. Adding the MSD wheel spaced the serpentine drive belt pulley out by just over 1/2". Wound up lathing a 1/2" section out of another pulley & welding it back together. Just *another* day added to the project......

    Distributerless ignition with remote coils?

The universal ones use a 'powered' pickup & steel studs in the trigger wheel move past it. Ya can put in the studs for a V6. To interface this w/ the SyTy ignition module, all that's needed is two capacitors to isolate the DC voltage from the module. Easy, works nice also, tried it.

    Distributerless ignition with remote coils?

FWIW, may not apply here - used an MSD crank trigger on my hybrid ignition system for the 383 SBC. Good piece, nice setup, dead nuts on. No need really for the COP or CNP here, as the dist cap is a *huge* crab style. Crank trigger pulses the stock SyTy ignition module very nicely, easy...

    SBC-L31 swap

PFI, just like the Sy. Add two more MSD 50# injectors on whatever manifold I can find that will mount them - or can be fitted for them.

    SBC-L31 swap

Casting # on block is 10243880 - which Mortec identifies as "2 or 4 bolt mains, roller cam, 1pc rear seal" - so, I guess I got lucky w/ the 4 bolt mains. Number was found on bellhousing mount, passenger's side, right behind lifter valley.

    SBC-L31 swap

Ok, picked up the motor, out of a 1996 Chev van; paid $750 as a running engine. Pulled it apart yesterday, had the correct head casting numbers for the Vortec heads - see www.mortec.com for the numbers. Also turned out to have four bolt mains - *very* nice! Off to the machine shop for...

    SBC conversion

Ok, we're rolling on the SBC L31 swap. What I propose is to start two new threads, "SBC-L31" for my install of that engine in my Sy. If tony's agreeable, maybe he could document his LS1 swap under the thread "SBC-LS1". I'll be posting pix as appropriate to Jesse's site...

    SBC conversion

Thanks much for all the advice & info, guys. Checked everywhere locally for a core - no deal. Found a place 3hrs away that has the right motor, number-wise. Heading out there Thursday to pick it up - 50k miles, $800. Brian G suggested LS1 - man, I'd *love* that, but haven't got the $$$ up...

    SBC conversion

Thanks, Canadian. Did some further checking, found a salvage yard here in MI w/ several 1996+ 5.7L engines, heading up there next week to check 'em out. All I'll be keeping is the block & heads, so don't need a real nice one. Question: are these 1996+ engines all 4 bolts & roller cams, or are...

    SBC conversion

Humm, after couple days of checking, first tough part is finding a good Vortec block & heads. 383 rotating assy's go for $900-1100, readily available - not w/ 8.5 - 9.0 CR or so, though; hafta look more. Lotsa 'honeydoo' stuff slowing this project down........arggggh! Anxious to get it apart...

First motor failed due to piston ring lands collapsing - it was a stocker pushed to 20psi. Next motor - professionally built by Ultratech - spun the two four bolt mains. This one - Ultratech again - put parts thru the pan in the center main area - not out & torn down yet, so dunno what. Seems...
