King CF Air X-over tubes - Product Review #2

Re: King CF Air X-over tubes - Product Review #2 The coating was some sort of resin. It took lots of work with 80 grit to get through it. Definitely not a rattle can coating. The problem was twofold. First, it didn't fit quite right and rubbed on the hood in three places. Second, the heat...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs I did a couple runs last night and my big boost oscillation is back. It's calling for 15 psi and I'm getting it to bounce between 15.5 and 17.2. You can hear it and feel it, too. 2 questions: 1. Could it be due to the fact that a PO (not...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs The initial boost duty cycle was set at 95 when I got the truck. I bumped it to 97 for this run. If it's safe to crank up some more, I will. My concern was that it would make that blip worse. You say I should focus on getting the boost more...

King CF Air X-over tubes - Product Review #2

Re: King CF Air X-over tubes - Product Review #2 I pulled it of and checked the inside with a mirror. The inside still looks fine. No fraying or flaking or cracks. While it was off, I did go ahead and refinish it. I don't know if the clear coat will last as long on the outside, but it sure...

King CF Air X-over tubes - Product Review #2

Re: King CF Air X-over tubes - Product Review #2 I hadn't thought about that. It's not just the finish that's deteriorated. The cf itself is very "fuzzy" from rubbing on the hood. It might be worth a shot to try to clean it up. It functions fine, just isn't real pretty (kind of like me...).

King CF Air X-over tubes - Product Review #2

Re: King CF Air X-over tubes - Product Review #2 Just for completeness sake, I bought the Ty from intheclouds1977. Here's a picture of this tube today.

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs Final tweak on this thread. I advanced the timing from -1.8 in the top two gears to +.7 (I think? 2 steps up on the chip) and another .5 lb boost. I have a couple questions. First, the wgdc is back to 100%, but it's giving me all the boost I want...

    Datamaster monitor not working?

Re: Datamaster monitor not working? Scratch this one. I installed it on another laptop and it works fine now. Still doesn't work on the first one, but that's OK.

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs I shortened the actuator one and a half turns for this run. Seems better to me. Temp outside is 93. While I was at it, I checked plug gaps and gathered compression data on cylinders (140-152 psi). Does this data look OK? I still get that boost...

    Datamaster monitor not working?

I'm trying to make adjustments to my VeloStTy chip. Last night, I plugged in the laptop with Datamaster, selected "Record ALDL data", then clicked "Monitor". I thought this would give me a live feed so I could adjust the tuning. Instead, it filled in the fields at the top of the main form...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs Thanks for the plug reading link. So I shortened the wastegate actuator rod a turn or so and re-ran. Here's the data. Huh? Why is the wg showing 100% dc when I was sitting waiting to turn around? And it looks like it's still maxing out. Shorten...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs Thanks for the great info. I'll try both the wg actuator (first) then a bit of advance. I just ran out and looked at the wg actuator. What's the best way to adjust it? It looks like a wrench wouldn't have room, but I think I see a e-clip...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs I filled the intercooler last night and tried it again. The DM screenshot is below. Note that it's the second run. I messed up the recording on the first one, so re-ran. IAT temp started at 120 and climbed to 140 by end of run (ambient was about...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs Can someone explain how the low IC level could cause the overboost and oscillation? I would expect it to just not cool the air as much, meaning a less dense charge and, therefore, less boost. Is there a mechanism I'm missing? I could understand it...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs Yeah, I do the "clip it to the tailpipe" thing on ATVs, but I didn't know if that was an accepted method on these trucks. I know the best way is to order a bung and plug, then cut and weld. But if I can do it in 15 minutes tonight instead of waiting...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs I have an Innovate LM-1 wideband O2 that I use for ATV tuning. What's the best way to do a quick couple runs with it to check my a/f ratio? Is it OK to just install it in place of the stock one and tell the chip to stay open loop or will that mess...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs Lots of great stuff. Thanks. I'll order the Walbro pump and an AFPR today. Can I stick with stock injectors (for the moment to save some cash)? I don't have big plans for it, other than driving to work on nice days. As far as the IC goes, I pulled...

Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs

Re: Timing advance and boost - DM vs. plugs Jimmy, Stock injectors, no AFPR, no boost gauge (stock truck except for the things mentioned in the top post). Plugs are NGK UR6 and gap is between .035 and .040. How can I see if the IC pump is working? The PO put a hotwire kit and Shurflo (??)...

    Just bought Ty #0776

Re: Just bought Ty #0776 I'm in warm and sunny Springfield, MO. Thanks for the greets. I posted my first question in the tuning forum. Don't be afraid to thump me if I've said something stupid - I have very thick skin.

    Just bought Ty #0776

I've been reading on this site for the past month or so in anticipation of my Ty purchase. Just bought 0776 from another member. It's a mostly stock truck (IC upgrade and hotwire, ABS delete, EGR delete, SportMachines impeller in stock housing, VeloSyTy chip, several reliability things) with...
