'02 L goes down!...the road faster than me

My buddy just got an '02 L, he's been talkin shit for the past week, and to my surprise he backed it up too. I was just rollin through town when I saw him, followed him to the highway enterance and that's where we lined 'em up. I took him for the first, oh we'll say 8 feet, and after that it was a different story. A much sadder story. At about 115 he had a good three car lengths on me. I've had my truck since October and it hasn't felt as fast since everything started going wrong...I'll be running some datamaster tests either today or tomorrow.

IC isn't working that could be why... run your truck too hard without a propperly running IC and you could coke your turbo..... not good my friend... My turbo needs replacement or a rebuild for sure.....

turbo's covered by warranty...and I was assuming that my IC would kick on at 160 F (possibly having hotwired it wrong, but don't think so.)

From a dead stop, I'd think you could kill him off the line, but if your TY is stock, the top end may be a different story.

Bad news mike...
My Ty's not stock, she's got a hell of mods done. I just can't figure out where the gremlins are...damn gremlins.

Lightnings are slow pigs IMO.Outta the hole in slow motion, and some "I'm all that" behind the wheel.
I don't know what I hate more.....rice,Mudstains,or Sparks :p .

The following was just my personal opinion and experience. Please don't think that all Sy/Ty owners are as narrow minded as me.

Lol...the voice of experience I am sure. Lightnings are not slow pigs. Faster than a properly running SyTy...not likely in stock trim. But as I always mention at nloc.org, there are many SyTys in poor running order. I pulled a five speed 5.0 last night three times in my bone stock GN (the kid was a little slow to figure it out). Doesn't mean the Mustang is slow. Just means I was a little faster. :D If you don't think the Lightning is a nice vehicle, take your SyTy over 100mph and then get a ride from someone with a Gen II Lightning and have them run you up to 100...completely different ball game.

eh, just do the coil overs front and rear with the new brakes from DPT. This way you are upgrading the sy to new technology like the ford has. Really, just about everyone with a low 12 or 11 sec sy should do this just for the safety if not the susp for sure the brakes. Thats my next project.

In anycase I seriously doubt the ligtning will ever be as fast, mods or no mods. Dont get me wrong ford has done a great job. There are few things the lighting cant overcome; Wt, traction, frontal area. I like'em even thinking about getting one as a company truck.

Eeerrr.. So the IC does what? "Coking the turbo" and an IC's function are not related. Coking of oil in the return line of a turbo ( most common type of coking failure, which results in the orifice being blocked, afterwhich no oil can flow) has more to do with oil type use and turbo bearing cooling.
A joke it must have been, wether you meant it or not.

Just call up Jim, Sal, or Johnny. They can show you many 10 sec timeslips. How long have these trucks been around for now>??? 3 years. They weigh close to 5,000lbs and are already running 10's. Not bad if you ask me. You are just ignorant. -Mat- No flames....I love Sy's and Ty's too.

lightnings arent slow by any means. the trucks have been out 4 years, many drivers havent had the time to mod them out like most of the sy/ty guys have. the syty has been around for what, 10 years at the least? you have a 6 year head start, wait till a few more are paid off. they run stock to stock right with a sy/ty down the 1/4 gotta give em a little credit.

Yea, I raced one of the new 5.4 L's and blew it away not runing my s/c. I thought they would run hi 12's? We were getting on a freeway ramp. I could hear him going through the gears .... as i was leaving him behind in my iroc. I thought the o2001's and older had the 351 and ran low 13's. the new engines are bigger & faster right?? Oh well?

just a 6

'93-95 Lightnings were the old style, with 351Ws. They had 240HP/350tq, ran mid-low 15s.
The'99-00 Ls had 5.4L engines, eaton s/c's, ran mid 13s to mid 14s (huge range with differing elevations/temps, etc). The '01+s have higher gear ratios, larger MAFs, 20 more HP. They run about .2 faster than the '99-00s, but have their own unique problems.

I thought the newer 2001 and up had a larger engine? guess not. I would not mind one, but the price tag$$$$$ ouch!
