32 Spline TR6060/T56 with 4472

I'm only post-whoring a little bit...

What are the different versions of the Sy/Ty/Bravada T-case? I've heard of 1372 and 4472. When I check rebuilders' websites or www.car-parts.com , they ask whether it has a 27 or 32 spline rear output and a 3" and a fraction or 4" and a fraction front flange.

Which applications had which version? Are there differences beyond the simple size of the shafts?

I have a weird build. I'm hooking a Sy/Ty T-case up to a TR6060 to put behind a BMW 5 liter V8 in a 1988 325iX.

I've figured out how to mate up the transmission and T-case with a 1.1" thick adapter, but it requires the 32 spline input in the T-case and a custom length 32 spline output from the transmission.

none of the SyTy Transfer cases will have a 32 spline input, you will have to buy the aftermarket input shaft (Mark Williams seems to be the easiest one to get these days) and swap it into the 4472.

As far as output shaft, the 92/93 Typhoon and 92-94 Bravada will have the 32 spline output.

The Syclone, 91 Bravada and all Astros/Safaris will have 27 spline output.

As for the front flange, I believe the Syclone/Astro case has the larger flange that all the SyTys use, but that can be easily swapped, the 4x4 yoke is also an option to swap onto it.

I know the 32 spline input is aftermarket (and not cheap!), and I posted in the group buy thread for it.

Thanks for the info!

Do the 4x4's have the 4 bolt flange on the transfer case too?

My Syclone came with an Iron front diff and a traditional u-joint front diff pinion... But the transfer case still has the 4 bolt flange.

OP - what flanges are you planning on running? What pinion angles can you achieve?

Re: 32 Spline TR6060/T56 with 4472

In the BMW setup, the driveshaft is straight off the back of the T-case. BMW uses a rubber flex disk at the back of the T-case and a one-piece driveshaft to a u-joint at the diff. pinion angle is non-adjustable and the driveline is straight all the way from the crank pulley to that final U-joint. I'm not sure whet I'll end up doing for driveline angles. I'll have to carve the floor pan a bit to fit the larger 4472 T-case, but I may have to make everything fit and then take what I end up with for driveline angles. Obviously I'll have a slip yoke and U-joint at the back of the T-case instead of the rubber flex disk.

BMW bolts the diff to the oil pan and in both the E30 325iX and E53 X5, uses a straight driveshaft with only a rubber flex disk at the front pinion. I'll be using the X5 SUV oil pan and front diff, because that's the only car BMW built as an AWD V8, but with the 4472 front output being in a different place, I'll have to fab a custom u-jointed driveshaft for the front.

Which 4WD yoke swaps onto the front output? I @$$ume that's a fixed yoke and not a slip yoke.

It may be a while until there is enough interest for a additional mark williams shafts. I know of 2 others that are interested in a shaft but i need at least 10 for a run. less than that and it will not happen.
