4.3 vortec motor?????

Lvnspeed

wana go 10's
is it wise to find a complete 4.3 vortec motor and build it up instead of building up the stock tbi vortec.

I have a friend who has a 2003 4.3 vortec motor out of a s10. I was thinking that because the vortec heads are the way to go just get a complete long block and rebuild it, new JE pistons, cam swap, and then have my intake manifold modified to accept the vortec heads so the down time of my truck would be less. Any reason not to do this?

Re: 4.3 vortec motor?????

It's been done - E RUE has a thread.

Sensible way to go but you should think about the mains (4 bolt or 2 bolt, billet caps or not) and the rods as they can be a source of failure.

If you wana go 10s then maybe nitriding your crank as well....

The manifold work is also necessary as you mentioned. You'll need bigger injectors of course and what turbo?

Otherwise, crack on with it.

What else are you planning?

Since I did one, it would probably be easier to use the older block. When I rebuild my Vortec, I will use newer style motor because I already did all the work.

The vortec motor has a different cam, timing chain assembly, different oil pan (You need to add oil return and mod/change the transmission lines), crank spacing (need to modify the starter holes) and is missing the knock sensor.

70 mm turbo
above mentioned motor
bigger injectors
adjustable fuel psi regulator
255 walbro pump
not sure on the tune yet
E85
any other suggestions?
