4.3L LV3 (Ecotec 3 V6)

I didnt see a thread on this one.

Aluminum block, 6 bolt caps, you can bolt a 6speed to it. coil over plug, 58X ingition, finally a proper V6 from GM. If this setup is anything like the LSX V8's then there shouldn't be to many issues making a reliable engine pushing 500hp.

I think this is going to be the V6 LS we've been waiting for.... just wait until these start showing up in junkyards. I know the LS is a hell of a lot easier to tune for as well.

They've been making one of these for years. They call it a 3800.

Oil squiters might be nice, but the rods are probably weaker...it will be fun to play with in 5 years when they get cheap enough to dink with and not worry about blowing one apart.

Right On Brian. I always loved the 3800. I mean its so easy to make 6-700 hp at a fraction of the cost.
Plus side on the 4.3 is the head bolt pattern allows for way more PSI. But the plus side on the 3800 usually the gasket will blow instead of your internals. Just my 2 cents.

thats true I guess, I havn't broken the bottom end yet. I'm not sure what it makes for power. whatever it takes to pull an awd brick through the traps at 134.5

I've heard alot of mixed things about the ls series, but I reallly wanna play with one. Im still trying to figure out which series is the strongest right out of the box (coupled with cheapest).

I think the 3800 is the only reason I really bought my Buick and probably the main reason I've kept it. It really says something when a stock long block 3800 can take 25-30psi on a regular basis. Mine still uses a "stock" style Eaton M90 blower, but the unbelievable torque it puts down is the main reason I love it.

Tuning i think is it's big advantage; it's easier to tune than a LSx (slightly less tables).

I have though about buying a supercharged Buick several times. I thought I had someone that would possibly trade me one for my long bed, since they were looking for a truck, but I never heard anything back. I will have to go and take a look/drive next time I come across one.

I want one bad. Granted like someone said it will be 5 (more like 10 for me) before we can reasonably get ahold of them but I have high hopes for this engine.

Then again if you think about it 4.3 stuff isn't exactly rare or uncommon. I know I pull 4.3 parts out of the junkyard all of the time for next to nothing and when I try to explain to people that they are my hot rod engines they look at me like I am a retard. So maybe they will get cheap fast.

Not a bad run for the 4.3 engine. Glad to see it go. The go-to v6 comparison when someone is giving sass towards GM. I often remind them half their ponies got lost in the glovebox.

There are two of these listed on car-part.com. I called the guy in OK and talked to him..he has the harness and the computer for it...he's at about $2500. Give it 6 months and these should start getting cheaper. I was looking for anyone else on the interwebs messing with these things but can't find anyone. Guys on ls1tech are making gonzo power with the LT1.

I think you will see this being a new thing for our crowd once they come down in price. Like I said I will be game in a few years.

I wonder if our exhaust manifolds would bolt on to this engine?
Edit: The exhaust ports are evenly spaced so this is a no.

Re: 4.3L LV3 (Ecotec 3 V6)

Do you know what they are using for Fuel injectors on the new LT-1?

Aftermarket I mean, like...they are direct injection and if you want more power you need more fuel...and im oblivious to how thats gonna work out.

definitely has potential. I've always said a LS based 4.3 v6 would be a badass engine to build up!

Re: 4.3L LV3 (Ecotec 3 V6)

It is a direct injection setup, there is a fuel pump on the block and it will need another one from the tank. From what I have read, you won't need another injector or pump for a while...but I did read some comments on pulse rates differing, etc.

I think this block will be the next thing in LS land...smaller, lighter, and will probably make more than enough power with a turbo.

I've been so tempted to upgrade to vortec heads, cam, etc. But I think picking up one of these is a better option when/if I go to the 4L80e.
