Re: 4l80e problem

With the hd2 you should only have 7 check balls . You mentioned 8 or 9 , might be a good thing to check .

thanks mrking!
i guess i´ll get my solenoids next week - i´ll drop the valvebody when i´m in there.
do you have a plan for the correct checkball locations or is there something online?

Re: 4l80e problem

recieved both solenoids today and will install them tonight - is there a way to pressure test each curcuit with compressed air to look for leaks within the valvebody once i´ve installed the new solenoids?

Re: 4l80e problem

if you deside to take the pan off at one point to see if you perhaps got a manual vavebody you can see that if you stand behind the car and than the most right handed oil gallerie is blocked. you won't be able to push it in (next to the a and b solenoids)
and if you take the valvebody off you will see some galleries are bored open and you will see 12 checkbals instead of 13

this oil gallerie is actually blocked, can´t move it by pushing:

Re: 4l80e problem

you should put a stock vb in there.

If you have got extra balls, clogged galleries etc, you need to rule that out. They can't be that expensive over there surely.

Once you get it ironed out I'm sure you'll love the trans :)

Re: 4l80e problem

looks like it has been converted to a manual shiftkit,. and there should 1 one checkball less in there than stock. i think you make it work by taking out the soleoinds. and than yu are able to manual shift it. i would spent the bux on a stock valvebody.

Re: 4l80e problem

update with pics - riped the valvebody out.
this thing seems to be haviely modded - has the 7 checkballs mrking mentioned, and the black plate bolted to it wich reads transgo. found 2 openings in the seperator plate welded shut, and many holes in the valvebody wich don´t seem to be stock - also found an odd retaining clip stuck in a littel hole in one of the gallys wich doesn´t seem to serve any purpose.

Re: 4l80e problem

definitely has had at least the stage 2 transgo kit installed. I didn't weld any holes shut in mine so I'm not sure about that. The clip didn't make sense to me either but its supposed to be there. I assume its supposed to act as a restriction

Re: 4l80e problem

ill have to look for my install instructions ,maybe later i can scan them . i know the clip in the hole is part of the hd2 . I dont know what it does , but i remember doing it . In my seperator plate i do remember hammering a soft plug into one of the plate holes . Not 2 though .
With the full hd2 install there are some pump mods and various other little things .To swap just a stock valvebody in id wonder if the other stuff should be put back to stock too .

Re: 4l80e problem

that would be a big help!
btw. as far as i found out, the hd2 kit got improved in 2006 by transgo - to ease install. so there is an early version and a later version of the hd2. i think i got the early version but have to find out for shure.
any litrature concerning the stock valve body and seperator plate would also help, so i can find out in wich way mine was altered.

Re: 4l80e problem

Just a quick question, if this was built by hartman yrs ago and you bought it off a guy that had hartman do it why wouldn't you try and get a hold of hartman and see if he could help out?
There are quite a few co people that still talk to him and could probably get you in touch with him.

I talked to him yrs ago and he remembered the name of the former owner of my truck and what kind of converter was put in it. He was very good with trannys defiantly sucks that hes not around anymore :(

Good luck with getting this thing going :D

Re: 4l80e problem

i tried to get ahold of him 2 years ago, when i bought the trany - but no luck. i also don´t remember the name of the pre owner of the trany, but adam (highperformancetrucks) might remember.
is it possible that his name was gerber?
does anyone here still have contact to brian hartman who could help me out?

berzerk is hooking me up with a new valvebody in stock condition that most liekely will solve my problems, but i would realy like to know what went wrong with the old unit.
thanks for your input!
