4l80e shift shaft hits prop

Not sure what to do about this but, the manual shaft that comes out of the side of the case hits the prop shaft. Does anyone make a shorter one or do I need to cut it and weld it? So far this install has been nothing short of a PITA, looks nice though:lol:

Got the wrong shaft in trans then, you sure you have a manual shaft and not one setup for the big shift indicator stuff.

OK you're right. I did take the NSBU off. Problem solved Iguess, need to find the right shaft. Thanks Jeffery

Have you got the thinner gear selector tab thingy to the selector cable as well? Detroit Turbo had them, not sure where to get them from, or you can heat your stocker up and hammer it as required.

To change the shaft the valve body needs to come off. On both my swaps, I cut the shaft and welded the end back on while the trans was in the truck. Well, actually the dumbass previous own of our Ty welded that one shorter but it snapped off when I put a wrench on the nut to take the shifter arm off So I just had to reweld that one. If you do what I did, make sure you throw a wet rag on it or shoot it with an air hose to cool it off fast so you dont melt the seal on the shaft.

I broke the end of mine off. Looks like you can cut away a piece of the seperator plate to get that roll pin out. I am going to try it later when I get my new shaft.

Got a part# or link for the new one?

No I got it at a local trans shop. Still hit the prop. Had to weld the nipple to the arm, remove the nut and grind the threads off. Not much left now, trans lines, converter bolts, bolt up shafts then it comes off the stands.

If you get the RIGHT Shaft no need to cut/weld, etc. Done many 80e installs never had that clearance issue.

What is the RIGHT shaft then? There is nothing wrong with cutting and welding the old shaft when it's free and doesn't prevent you from pulling the shaft out in the future.

Re: 4l80e shift shaft hits prop

I didn't cut or weld the shaft. On the arm where the nipple for the shifter cable is, I welded the nipple to the arm because the nut that holds it to the arm was hitting the shaft. I'm sure this all stems from me having an oversized shaft, it's been a real handicap most of my life:lol:
