I think I dropped the ball...I forgot to take the part of the xfer case off the 700 and it is in the shop...now I can't mate the trans to xfer case...can I go ahead and put the trans in the get everything else done and put the xfer case in last? I know you said not to do this but I don't think I'm going to have any choice now...trans shop won't be open until Tuesday

i've installed the xfer case last a few times on a 700r4 before. shouldn't be too diff on a 80e. I think they recommend it as 1 piece due to fitmet/ease of install though....that the tail of the xfer is tough to get over the torsion bar mount or somethin like that.

I've sent you this link before in the other thread. Please read it. It will save a LOT of headache.
Now if you remove the torsion bars and loosen the crossmember for the torsion bars AND the frame rail crossmember and slide them back like in the link above, you could do it. If you leave the crossmember in, no. If you have coil overs and no crossmember, it's a no brainer.
