All right guys, guess I'm picking up a 92 Typhoon on Thursday. It's stock except for a K&N filter. I want to get a chip or something to up the performance some. My question is what chip should I get ? Are the chips for these trucks just mail tunes or do u need the chip and a dyno tune once you get it? I have know clue on this subject? If you do just put in a mail tune chip what kind of gains will I actualy see?

Re: 92 Typhoon chip

It all depends on what you want to do with the truck.. if your not bumping up the boost any and just want slight slight gains then ask for a atr pitbull street chip.. this is basically the a stock chip but with all the limitations removed. It's also prob the safest of whats out there but also doesn't produce much gains.

If your looking for gains and upping the boost, you have to go with a 3 bar map chip to handle the fueling of the more boost. Look around there's tons of info and options. The mail order tunes depending on who's doing them are great but require you to have a means of data logging and wideband o2.

Re: 92 Typhoon chip

Thank You! So if I wanted to take the Ty to get dyno tuned I would need the 3 bar? Then they can make all the adjustments through it correct? I'm new to the tuning stuff and cant find any straight forward answers when using the search. How much can you up the boost with out needing new injectors to compensate? To step up the fuel system what all is required? Just a intank pump, injectors, AFPR and a fuel gauge?

The 3bar map enables the ecu to see more then 14.5lbs of boost.. if you up the boost with a 2bar chip and map.. the ecu will only see at max that 14.5lbs and supply enough fueling even if your at 20 plus you'll only get fueling to fill the 14.5lb need which is why everyone suggest going with a 3bar map, and a chip calibrated for the 3bar map before bumping up the boost at all. There's a good explanation of it on www.sytychips.com I believe.

Also you can't make adjustments thru the map sensor, you have to actually edit the bin file on the chip. Again read in the tuning section.

Stock injectors have gone 11's I think but that's with meth.. It's different for each truck i've seen.

Check out the tuning section.. in order to tune there's more to it then just adjusting the fuel pressure but yes afpr and fuel pump are must but I wouldn't do anything until you replace your stock fuel pump with the walbro 255.. The stock fuel pump is barely enough for a stock truck since it was originally used on n/a trucks lol.

Also get the truck running 100% first before you go upping the boost or dyno tuning it for the most out of it.. These motors have week internals and don't handle kr well so I would suggest before you start digging into performance, do allot of reading on here and locate a syty owner who is local to you that has datamaster or some other type of data logging program that they can hook up to your truck to ensure it's running good enough to screw with.

Re: 92 Typhoon chip

ATR went out of business two years ago.. Put a want add in the for sale section of the forum and someone will get with you because there's alot of them floating around.
