Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

Get a ****ing turbo or it's not a Typhoon.

:D

Oh rly? My VIN says otherwise!

Seriously, if I put a turbo in there right now, it will blow the whole truck apart.

***
Installed vac kit and new NGK UR5s instead of crappy Delco's CR43s. UR5's happened to be noticeably shorter, and therefore easier to work with.
I never noticed this before, but my charcoal canister's vac line is missing (I assume someone did this on purpose as there are some plugs on both ends). Hm, do I need a new canister? :squint:

Anyway, truck runs much better now, without any misfires and MAP errors. I'll need to do some more cold starts to confirm, though, but I'm optimictic.

Threw in new torsion bar mounts. Old ones were torn apart:

+ New windshield pump.

And I finally know how to fix endgate squeaks for good (and its also cheap way to do it), but I'll need to make some more pictures before posting this up.

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

Okay, here's the deal.

With new fuel pump and new plugs Ty ran perfect at first. A little hesitation right after start (I guess my fuel rail doesn't hold the pressure), and then there were rocksolid warm-up revs. No misfires. Ran great.

But when it's very hot outside, engine starts to misfire again. Maybe its not a misfires, but idle revs are very shaky, and I can feel a little power drawbacks when I'm accelerating. There's more - MAP 33 error appears from time to time when it's hot. My vac lines are brand new, and my MAP should be okay too.

Hm.
I'll get new AFPR, a fuel pressure meter and some heatwrap in a couple of weeks. I'll check for the fuel pressure, and I"ll wrap my headers. I guess this will help a little.

BTW, check this out:

Its my old sending unit. Notice the broken strainer looking upwards. No wonder engine stalled when the tank was half full - pump was just sucking air.

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

Have you changed your ignition module? They don't like to get hot and they fail when they do.

Glad you found the fuel pump issue.

I've changed both distributor and ignition coil few month and maybe 500 miles back, so these should be okay.

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

I spent 3 hours thinking how to retrofit BMW DSC system in my Ty. Way too hard, and quite expensive, even if electronic module itself will work without ECU.

Denied.

Fk. I'd love to have it.

I'll have to live with ABS delete kit and braided lines. :)

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

1) Did you use a submersible fuel line for the fuel pump ? If not, the fuel will eat it fast!

2) Header wrap shortens the life of headers! The metal overheats and falls apart!

1. Yep sure :)
2. I know. But my headers suck anyway - they touch spark wires, I need to protect these. I'll make a new headers when the time comes.

Long story short - I bought TC rebuild kit with VC and chain, braided brake lines and Mike Hood's ABS delete kit. Now I'll have to wait for another 3 weeks :)

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

My Ty still has stock factory u-joints. Those are "nylon injected" or whatever. Took me 3 hours of hard work before I finally took a blowtorch, and burned that nylon sheet out. It took 30 seconds after that. Didn't have much more time though, so I just replaced one of them.
Some of the vibrations eliminated.

And the ign module - I saw you read elsewhere that they often go bad - just buy another for a spare anyway. :D

Your karma is very bad - looks like my ICM is busted now. :squint:
I'll use one from my old distributor while new one is in transit.

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

So, ICM from new distributor lasted for, em, 1000 miles! And its GM, at least there's GM logo on it. Yesterday I swapped it with an old one (from my old, non-working distributor), and engine runs fine. Both ICMs look just the same.

I'm kinda worried - I thought GM parts last forever :)

One thing that makes them last is the special grease that goes between moduel and dis!

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

Finally I got a package with braided ABS delete and other brake lines, some brake hardware, new Raybestos super brake pads, new ICM, axle seals, and some micro ball bearings (I want to use these to fix endgate squeak once and for all).
I already have new front discs, so when I install all the brake stuff I have my brakes are going to be in best possible shape for stockers.

A week ago I managed to break brand new Spicer u-joint. Don't you mess with hydraulic press! :) Idiot.
It seems that I squeezed fuel return line when I installed the fuel tank last time. I can't think of any other explanation of 85 PSI of fuel pressure :)

BTW, same^ day I became a man - my Ty blown its ECM B fuse for the first time! :)

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

He focking hates me! New brake discs, new brake pads, new shoes, new brake lines, etc etc. And what did he do to thank me? Stripped the thread on hard brake line! And I can't remove it easily - too many disassembly involved. Damn.
