Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

I wonder why Ty consumes so much fuel. I'd say it's like 30 l/100 km now, which is way more that it should be, even if we consider heavy traffic in here.

We don't usually deal with L per 100Km, but that works out to be about 8mpg, which is not good.

It's looks like you have some mods, so maybe something is way off.

Do you fuel injectors have a red top?
What is your Fuel pressure set to with it unplugged from the vacuum source?
Does the ECM have a stock chip in it?

Yep, I forgot that you've got MPGs for fuel mileage. I'll do the math myself next time. :)

Yes, injectors are red-tops. I haven't checken ECM chip yet. Can I check it with software, through aldl cable?
Haven't check the fuel pressure yet :(

How is your EGR working?

Hm, I forgot about this. I guess I'll have to check it, too.

Too bad its still chilling cold out there - Ty won't start for sure, so I can't drive to garage.

If you have Datamaster, your ALDL should connect as long as you have right version for a stock truck.

EGR may have something to do with the crappy idle when the engine is hot. I'm not sure though. If you're not throwing a code then it may be ok.

You need a turbo on it :D

I'll do some datamaster runs then, maybe we'll find out smth. interesting.

I wonder if there's some kit with all vacuum hoses, so I can buy it and change every vac tube on my engine?

I sure do need one, but not right now :)

There are some fags in FL that do a bitchen vac line kit every 6 months.it is well worth the $.

I think there might be some body that stocks them.

If the new hinges didn't fix the squeaky rear window, try putting some electrical tape on the hoop that is in the glass. A few wraps of tape around the hoop will make the latch a little tighter.

A better fix imo is to take off the rear panel on the door. You then have access to the lock/latch mechanism.

It's held on by 4 bolts. Loosen them and adjust the latch so that it is a tighter fit. Make sure to tighten them after adjustment.

You want to push the latch mechanism forwards by a mm or so. When the tailgate is in the vertical position, this will have the effect of making the latch lower and tighter = no squeak. 20 min job. Made a hell of a difference to drive my truck without that noise.

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

My bet is on tailgate hinges. Thay are very worn and loose. I guess I'll have to drill a bigger holes in these and install front door hinge repair kits in there. This should do the trick.

It's probably combination of everything, lower hinges, glass hinges and weather stripping wearing out over time. I would just adjust striker as Quickstop suggested (I know it worked on my Ty) as a quick fix.

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

I wonder, is there any manual like "Checking EGR system (and evap. canister, and other "nearby" stuff) for dummies?"

Chilton's repair manual requires vac. pump, and I don't have one. It could be bought, but I think there must be some easier ways to do it :)

I've got Adobe PDF scans of the EGR pages from my 1992 Typhoon Service supplement.

PM me your email address if you want them.

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

Ran my truck through the Datamaster for the first time.

I wonder what spark advance and EGR values are okay? My EGR looks like way off normal - it is 30 when calculated value is 4, 55 to 5 and so on. Is it bad?

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

Are you getting a code?

Your truck is designed to run with a turbo so perhaps your MAP is out of whack as well.

Coincidentally, I have a turbo for sale!!

I haven't checked for codes, but I don't have any "wrong" lamp on the dash, so there shouldn't be any.
MAP is okay. ECM doesn't really care if there's a turbo or not - it just adjusts fuel mixture according to MAP, boost sensor and so on. So no turbo - less fuel automatically, and everything's fine. I love these closed loop engines :)

Yeah, I remember that :)

Re: '92 Typhoon in Siberia

Is your gauge actually working? Ignition on, light on? Jumper the ALDL port and turn the ignition on and you should get a flashing check engine light.

Maybe you have unknown codes.....

You need a turbo

Yep, it's working. I'll check for codes, though.
