Utilizing a HKS SSBOV like many others on here, myself included.

I wasn't getting the "PSSST" sound I was expecting so I wanted to see if it was installed in the wrong place or something, but that's exactly where mine is.

It still has a flutter, but it only flutters once, and then the HKS blows off with a higher pitched whistle like if you were blowing too hard in a coach whistle.

where did you plugged the vacuum/boost source?
seems like you have a laggy setup at the steering line for the BOV

The HKS SSBOV sounds like a whistling bottle rocket to me when it vents boost to the atmosphere. You have the purple insert on the outlet correct? The gold insert produces a higher pitch than the purple one does. Sounds like you have something plumbed not quite right if you are still getting turbo flutter when you get off the throttle. I have mine plumbed into the upper intake (for the brake booster) via the same fitting that my boost gauge is connected to.

Using the above pic to indicate, the vacuum line is plugged into the exact same source:

The whistling bottle rocket analogy is a good one, btw.

If you have your setup plumbed the same, perhaps *some* flutter is unavoidable with an A2A IC. My guess would be that the BOV cannot vent the pressure quick enough due to the increased volume of all the additional piping. I only have one foot of pipe that has to be "depressurized" and you have what, about four plus feet :p ?

Perhaps some other folks who are running a BOV with A2A ICs can share their results.

Re: A2A with BOV pics request

HKS SS blow off valves are supposed to flutter a little bit if adjusted correctly. I had one on my turbo honda, my buddies turbo honda, another friends turbo 240z, i have one on my sy, etc. Every one ive heard flutters, thats part of the reason they got so popular because they didnt have the normal pssst sound. I wouldnt be worried about it. you can test if you want to make sure its actually releasing pressure. just have someone stand out front while you spool it up and let off. they will easily be able to feel the air coming out. Just dont slip off the brake and run them over ;)

Did you adjust it for your vacuum at idle or just install it? It may need to be adjusted as every car is different.

I think the "flutter" sounds kinda cool. I have a TurboX brand and it is loud as all hell.

Re: A2A with BOV pics request

with the water unit, my sy's flutter would quickly end when you release the throttle...now with a kb a2a it flutters about 3 times longer....kinda sounds like a rattlesnake at times when your driving right next to a curb....probably due to the increased volume of airspace in the a2a....i have a bov that isn't connected to vacuum....i'll snap a pic and post it later....

Re: A2A with BOV pics request

I took a pic the other night of mine finally, looks same as the rest so I guess it's fine. The vacuum line I am currently using a little too large, but I will pick some new line up later.

Once I finish replacing the hoses and cleaning under the hood I'll look into re-powdercoating it all.
