AC compressor removal question.

It looks like I need to remove the pulley to get the compressor off the bracket, is this correct? The bolts hit the pulley so I can't get them out with it on. Can I just use a regular pully remover tool to get it off? Seems simple enough right? Just wanted to make sure since none of the posts I searched mentioned removing the pulley....

Thanks.

no dont have to take the pully off. bolts have a flat side. they are tight but do come out

Re: AC compressor removal question.

I took my stock compressor off without removing the pulley but it was a bitch. The "ring" around the hex portion of the bolt head actually had small flat spots to help get the bolt head past the pulley.

My replacement compressor, which appeared to be identical, would not let the bolts clear the pulley at all. I could put them in after grinding the flat spots a little bigger, but fully tightened they hit the pulley. EIther way, Ive never removed a pulley to remove or install a compressor.

After changing my waterpump recently, I found out that its pretty easy to pull off the upper fan shroud and fan, which probably wouldve made the whole AC compressor swap easier. Next time I'll try that.

What ya doing to the truck Logan?

Yeah, I couldn't get mine out/off either. Which is why its still sitting on the bracket in the garage

The one closest to the engine usually doesn't come out without a little "persuasion" with a hammer and a punch.

Hey Tim....

nothing fancy, just getting rid of the AC because it's never worked and I never used it....Just trying to get it running right again, ever since I moved back to MD after school it's been one thing after another failing. But there is light at the end of the tunnel! (I think it's the 'check engine' light )

The goal is to have it ready to make a road trip back to the Rolex24, where hopefully I'll see some of you FAST guys again.
