Aftermarket head unit

I have seen some head units that are flush with the dash, like a flat dsah-kit, but mine sticks out, farther than i like it, is there any trick with the kits or it just matters on the Cd player size??

Mine is flush mounted. Heat up a thick piece of wood (it will not catch on fire) or use another device to heat up the plastic at the back of the dash and "re-mold" the plastic. If you use the wood (rectangular shaped) you can just push the plastic back.

Voila!

You dont need to heat it up if you have certian mounting kit or deck its flush, some decks are longer then others too so you may have to bend but a clarion is not long and mine is flush. If nothing else, get a tv in your dash and its dlat and flush :)

i've yet to see a deck that fits flush in any s 10 or s 15 truck, without a kit or any type of modifaction.
you
a. need to use the ugly bump out kit
b. heat up the vent and push it in with a 1 inch piece of wood works well
c. remove the vent cut it out and fibre glass it back together thats if you were going to compete at an iasca competition, thats the way the want you to do it.

Is that thing a CD and tape deck? Or just a fat but shallow CD deck? Looks sweet though what ever it is!
I wanted to move the heating vents to blow out below the radio location right under it in that little pocket or shelf or what ever you wanna call that stupid part of the dash. I've got a couple of the radio trim pieces so I think I can do it. I've re-arranged full size Chevy dashes with those stupid dual radios so this shouldn't be too hard. Plus the CD's get hot as hell with the vents on in the winter so I can only imagine how hot it is in the radio with the vents the way they are. I'd like to get cold ait from outside through the cowl into the dash to cool the radio even if the heater is on. That will be a project!

I've liked the idea of those OEM-fit radios, but I've never really liked Pioneer, and Jensen is the only other brand I've seen. This Alpine looks pretty nice. They list it as $500, but it does seem to be a pretty decent head unit, and not having to cram it into the dash is a big plus. I still like my eXcelons though...

i can post some pics of it in the dash, maybe i have one on my site somewhere. But that alpine series (it has kept getting more and more features added to it, but remaining pretty much, visually the same) is awesome.

The sound is great. Im an alpine freak though, always had an alpine in my cars. its just a cd player, with a huge removalbe display. Some real cool features, your friends will like the way it dims when it turns off. I do. Good sound, will kick the shit outa your stock system (especially once you throw out the og 10ohm speakers) Never has skipped with exception of craped out cd's. Playes my burned disks fine. I wish it played mp3s though, that the last straw for me.

Look everywhere, you should be able to snag it, or one of the older models for under 300 bucks.
