Air filter on turbo

Re: Air filter on turbo

In my opinion, that thing looks pretty cheapo. Since it is only $14.99, I am going to guess that you get what you pay for. I may be wrong, but unless there were a few dozen people that you knew that used one of those and loved it, I would look for something else.

I know I picked up some et when I went from open element to a modded atr box,dig is right open airfilter is a bad idea.Any open element under a hood is a bad idea I think..It becomes a HAI hot air intake.....

Even these style filters would work for me as Im lookin for a quick fix until I can build my own CAI..

I gues the questiin is really would one of these mounted directly to the turbo in the rather warm location produce better power than a cone on the end of the dreaded crossover pipe?

Re: Air filter on turbo

My new Typhoon has the old kennebell cai did these really work? I've been thinking about changing it to an open filter but don't want to relocate battery in this one. Is that a kit from RPM?

On www.spectreperformance.com, check out filter #889608 using the stack adapter number #9601. Total height is less than 4 inches. Not sure how much clearance is needed to the radiator.

Wouldn't this fit directly on a stock turbo and provide a larger circumference of a filter?

Short answer - no.

People seem to have the mentality that if they can see the filter, it has to be faster.
The reality is, this is very rarely the case, unless your filter is outside the engine compartment.

A lot of the pictures here look really pretty, but they're still bad design.

Re: Air filter on turbo

I didn't do mine for the whole HP thing. I did mine because my crossover tube was broken and I didn't want to ruin my turbo.

Plus now, my turbo is alot louder;)

APC cheap air filter available at any AdvancedAuto or Pepboys for $20

shown on a 72mm, so you'll have more clearance with a stock turbo

I tried this same filter on the end of my pte52 and I hit everything infront of it.. that comes off the radiator..
