alternator output question

Re: alternator output question

Well, the price is right on that eBay 200A alternator, sounds a lot better than a $500 PowerMaster that will most likely fail again like the first two did. If the housing is the same, I'll just take the eBay 200A alternator apart and move the internals to the PowerMaster chrome housing.

They all say to upgrade the battery to alternator wire to at least 4 gauge. I looked at my alternator just now and couldn't easily identify this wire due to all the sleeving etc. Can someone post a pic of which wire needs upgrading and how you routed it?

Thanks

Re: alternator output question

OK, I found the battery to alternator cable. I just ran a 2nd 8 gauge booster cable along with the factory one, this way it's a reversible mod. Also ran a huge braided ground strap from the back of the alternator to the frame (bare metal).

Re: alternator output question

I took out the factory wire and put in a brand new Phoenix Gold 4 gauge wire. I used good connectors and loom'd it and routed along the same path as the factory wire. I decided that it was a good time to replace a hot wire in a 14 year old truck.
