Anyone here in Houston?

I'm thinking about picking up a Typhoon for a DD. I currently DD a 2001 Lightning w/ a built motor (460/550 at wheels), and would like to turn it into a nice-day only driver. Is there anyone in the Houston area that would be willing to meet up with me some time soon so I can check one of these out? I've never been up close to one, only passed them going the other way on the highway.

Let me know! woody1385@yahoo.com

Good choice, except the DD part. I drive an 02' SVTL and keep my Ty for the weekends.

Haha, yea I'm a little afraid from what I've read. Seems like hit or miss as far as daily driving dependability goes...

If they are driven normally with a little bit of fun here and there, I don't see why they wouldn't/won't be reliable. Doesn't make any sense to me ....

I drove mine for about a year everyday and did not have many problems, but I now regret putting that many miles one it. I bought the Evolution VIII as a DD and missed having a freakin fast truck, so one truck later(Tacoma X-Runner), I am driving a Lightning.:)

I live past the east side

My next day off is in the second week of May. If you haven't found a ride by then get in touch with me and we can probably work something out.

How much money did FoMoCo throw into R&D for the whole SVT program? How many L's have been sold over their production run?

4,700 Typhoons. Ever. 'nuff said.

Haha I know, but still...

What are the major problems with them? Motor internals and tranny?
Can an LS1/auto swap be done with these? These can be had pretty cheap together.

LS1 auto TT/single turbo setups have been done. A few folks on the board have some sick sick sick projects in the works reguarding the LS motors. Hit up the search function and youll see some damn nice work.

From my experiences with my Ty, and seeing/reading other's experiences, leaving the truck as close to stock will lend more DD usage. Its once people start to mod, and mod incorrectly is when shit starts to break.

And the crank/main bearings from knock is the main killer it seems in these engines.

So, if you find a stock truck, taken care and maintained properly, and leave it like that, I don't see why it shouldn't be dependable.

Re: Anyone here in Houston?

Yea I don't doubt there are some sick projects going on right now.

Marty - thanks for the heads up. I'd like to check it out sometime. I'm looking for someone w/ a stock one, soon, as I'd like to see if it's something I am truly interested in pursuing.

Guys, there HAS to be someone on these boards from the Houston/Sugar Land/ Missoui City areas that has one and would be willing to let me check it out!
