Anyone know a SMOG tech in the San Jose Area?

Took the Sy down to the SMOG place in San Jose today and the guy said he couldn't test the truck because of the headers and open air filter. He started asking for CARB numbers and crap, so I just left. Does anyone know a SMOG tech in the San Jose area who won't hassle a Sy/Ty owner over petty stuff? All the emissions equipment is there and the truck has a brand new 3" cat in it, fresh oil, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. FP is turned down to about 35 base. I know it'll pass the sniff test, but the visual inspection is an apparent problem with all these new performance parts. Hate to have to go to the underground, but that may be the only solution unless I can find a SMOG tech in Santa Clara or San Jose to look past the open filter and headers. Any leads would be appreciated.

syty´er in Santa Clara, eh? I´m from San Jo.

I have some of the same mods you have. Give David Hernandez at buzz at Los Gatos Auto Service at 408 377 1751. You can mention me, they´ve done a few things on my ty there. Hopefully they remember me.

Last i spoke to dave, i think he was talking about selling out his share of the business, but the guys there at los gatos auto should still know me-remember my truck.

Their shop is right off of Camden ave exit off 880.

hasta,
patrick

Any of you find a tech that will help a fella out? I used to have a couple hook ups when I lived there but I dont have there contact info. I have a buddy in the bay area with a late 70's firebird with big block olds that runs 10.0's at Sac that is in need of smog check help.

If you know of anyone send me a PM please.

Thanks.

Re: Anyone know a SMOG tech in the San Jose Area?

Guys, I'm in the same boat. I just bought my Typhoon, GTP, and Grand National to Oakland from Detroit and I am very worried about passing the strict California emissions in any of them. The GTP has your basic mods but the open air K & N filter will be a problem; the GN is a beautiful stocker with 28,000 miles but it's still a GN and well the Ty...that's a whole different story.

All have been recently tuned, plugs, caps, oil, etc. but I am still very concerned about passing.

I greatly appreciate any thoughts that you may have.
