ATR Battery Relocation Kit

I had a helluva time with mine. Everything else I've purchased from ATR has been very well engineered and of high quality. But, this thing was kind of hokey. The tray itself is secure. If I were to do it again, I'd put my own clamp-type hold-down in. The kit relies on a lip on the inner fender cover to hold the battery in place. If your battery ever flipped over onto the terminals, it would be an inferno by the time you got that cover off to fix it.
The cables they supplied were too short, and the bolting of the new cable to the old cable and shrink wrapping it doesn't seem ideal.
You're supposed to bend the cover "by hand" to conform to the inner fender. Unless you're Hercules, it takes a rubber mallet and a lot of banging. Even then, it doesn't really fit right.
Some folks like 'em, it just didn't seem like a good solution to me. I took it out and sold it.

I think that kit sucks. Have someone make you a battery bracket and bolt it to the frame rail under the bed. Its not as hard as it sounds. My friend did it and it is easy to get to and fits perfectly. That ATR kit is a bitch to access the battery. And oh yeah "installs in minutes". Bending that wheelwell piece was loads of fun.

yea, the under the bed idea is the best ... i had an ATR relocation kit.... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA. what a friggen joke. the battery is a side terminal batteryand the stupid ass door fits right aginst it Ark Ark Ark my batery goes ... so i put some rubber thick shit so the battery wouldnt touch hahaha I launched with a coulpe of 50 year old men and the car fell on its face and I sawsmoke .. oh shit i thought... open the hood the battery was on fire.... hahaha try to get the plate off with flames in your face. one guy actually was throwing dirt on the battery turbo ect... remeber now these guys are in there 50's me28 anyway after i got the dirt,fire extigusher cake and the battery out i threw away front plate.....bought a new battery and a motor cycle strapand whent home . I whent through a turn really fast and the strap came loose. the battery was rideing on the tire....... oh shit hahahahahaha luckly i cought it before the tire could eat all the way through the battery case ...... in other words dont GET THE ATR KIT... Yeah thats what i thought, this thing looks like a pile of crap, so im pondering a way to alter it so that its a trust worthy pile of crap. This is gonna be a fun thing to do, some welding and cutting is in order. I havent been very impressed with anything i have gotten from ATR at all. And im still looking for a downpipe with an extrnal waste gate for the te-44 turbo, i dont wanna get the atr.

Get a PTE housing & downpipe, use the integral wastegate.
The ATR battery relocate is plain retarded IMO. I'd just relocate it to the bed if I did it again. I'd feel better about it there, and it'd be easily accessible for service.
Using self tapping screws for the metal work would probably make the job 100 times easier IMO.

I just made my own relocate kit.
Took a stock battery tray, cut it down a bit and bolted it to the rad support below where it used to be.
A 70 series battery fits right in nicely between the fender and the rad support, its held in securly, stock cables reached perfectly.
I debated about moving it to the bed, or under on the frame, but I was just too lazy to run the cables. Especially the cut off switch.
It worked out very well. The only hitch is I haven't put the inner fender back in, It will require some modifiying as well, but nothing serious.
I can get some pics next week if anyone is interested.

Isn't there a big round ball vacuum thingy under the location where the battery is? What did you do with that?
