So Iactually made some progress! (for all you haters in the crowd) For those not following my re-rebuild, I'm mounting my turbo further away from the motor for clearance from the radiator, and just to be different. This requires some header mods to make it work. I bought the atr headers that were frankensteined onto the TyStang in FL, so I feel no sorrow for hacking them up more.
I got the drivers/easier side mocked up/done today. I'll still need to cut it apart to add a vband clamp to it, but wanted toget the main xover done today.
front view. i think it wraps around quite nicely
closeup of my, ahem, great welds. Who wants to buy me a tig for xmas? I'd never welded stainless before...so i had to buy some tri-mix. Sure smells funny w/ the helium in it.
Clearance of the xover on the drivers side...looks good to me.
Now for the harder part....joining up the two headers into the t3 flange. Should be fun, not sure what exactly i'm going to do yet.
Back view of what i'm dealing with for joining the headers/xover. I'm gonna need a tight bend off of the passenger manifold to it doesn't interfere with the turbo compressor outlet.
My only clearance issue right now is the xover coming close to the water pump outlet.
This really isn't an issue though, becuase once put my vband clamp on the drivers side, i'll be able to easily tweak this away from the water pump before welding the rest of the header pieces up
So thats what i did this morning
Now Its time to go do some non-car shit. yay. So how does one go about testing for leaks - I'm sure my welds aren't 100% sealed, and I'd lke to ensure they are before dropping the motor back in. Suggestions?
