Battery drain through horn/dm fuse

So far I'm good all the way through the dome light, dimmer switch, both doors' switches and the vanity lights on the visors work. The drain goes away when I unplug the radio connector that's labeled +12v memory and something else(can't remember) that connects to a 2 wire factory connector-brown/white and orange/white-but then I've got no footwell convenience lights, going to check what else now. Any help is great.

Welcome to my problem 9 months ago.

I never figured it out.

Mine would pop the horn/DM fuse, then the courtesy lights and dome light work opposite of each other when the door is opened or closed.

I tried a little bit bigger fuse thinking something I had added might be drawing more, but it didn't help.

I just wound up leaving the under dash courtesy lights out (empy) and then I had no more problems.

PS: check out S-SeriesForum.com there are several posts there about the same or similar problem. Do a search for "horn".

Rick, that's the wrong answer. I was following your thread on the subject at the time and again from the archives before I posted. Even w/o the bulbs in the floorwell lamps, I still have a drain. Unplugging the constant hot to the radio kills those and the mirror map lights, but then the drain's back. I'd really hoped you'd found something. I suppose it's off to the auto electrician's soon.

disconnect the radio, my radio was pulling 9 amps at idle( car off) so I have no more radio eeven though it was supposed to be brand new and work perfect (Hey Trevor :fist: )

I had the same problem.

Mine was a fried connection behind the dome light.

Had some local guys hook my truck up to something called a SimuTech computer.

Has harnesses that go around the ECM connectors and other locations and has a database of voltages that are expected to be seen, injected, returned and grounded.

Found it in one pass.

I did have to look up the circuit number on the Opie CD, because they only had a number of the wire assoiated with the ECM, was trivial after that though...

That part of the shop is shut down now though, Havana Machine @ Mississippi.

Hope this helps.

Hey Guys,

Just went through this. In my case, found the drain to be the radio. Unplug the in-line fuse to the radio (I think its down by the steering staft, brake pedal area, not the fuse box). The parasitic drain would then go to normal levels - whats weird is that the radio, clock and cd deck all worked perfectly. It would literally kill a full charged battery in two weeks. I had my stock deck re-done, no more probs.

Took 4 years and two DieHards to figure this one out.

Will,

Took it a local shop that fixes radios for GM dealers. They said both the receiver and the CD drive was shot, causing a drain. Had to believe them, cost me 2 bills thou...
