Well tonight was full of laughs.
After leaving our shop my head tech decided to follow me home in my new Ty in his 93 Honda Civic hatch that is setup for drag racing. He is running an LS Vtec combo with Darton sleeved block, crower rods, Je Pistons, Stock GSR Head, Precision 63mm Turbo, Full Race equal length manifold, with a huge PWR air to air intercooler, Tial wastegate and BOV. He also is running an AEM EMS that is tuned very well as he has put down 440 hp at the wheels on a dynojet on pump gas.
Anyway after 3 redlights we finally were able to line up next to eachother at the front of the light and he starts revving on me.
He had his street tires on and it is very cold here so I figure I can launch on him and hopefully hold him off until we catch another light.
Well I was right, as soon as I saw the other light turn yellow I started brake boosting until I got to about 7psi then I held it until the light went green. I have awesome reaction speed so not only did I jump before him but also launched perfectly with just a little chirp. I had him by about 5 cars until he hit the top of 2nd where he finally caught traction and jump up to my rear bumper just then we caught a redlight.
It was on again, This time the light was on a small hill going upward, I knew I would have the advantage so I waited until I saw him go before I nailed it, this would show him that I didn't just get the jump on him. Well sure enough he was about 1/2 car ahead when I launched at about 10psi this time. I quickly passed him as he was fighting for traction and pulled about 8 cars on him up this hill. As soon as we hit the top of the hill and started heading down he caught traction and started to pull hard on me. But once again as soon as he got to my tailgate we had to slow for another light.
He rolled down the window and asked if I wanted to try a 3 beep start from a roll? I felt bad about beating him so I said yes. After the light turned green we rolled out slowly at about 15mph and he gave me the 3 beeps and I floored it. He immediately started spinning tires as I pulled 1 car on him at the top of his 2nd gear he caught traction and pulled even with me and stayed there until we hit about 100. At which time we both slowed for a light. I immediately rolled down the window to ask him what happened as he should have pulled past me. He said that he was boost spiking and had to feather the throttle to keep the boost under 20psi.
I survived this round, next round if its warmer out I won't be so lucky.
Hopefully adding an Ultimate chip and some VP105 fuel will give me a chance. Its nice to beat someones drag car with your daily driver
