Center cap o-ring

I bought replacement o-rings for my stock rims and within 3 months they've cracked. I'm unsure of the age or qualtiy of the replacement o-ring, but they're were used for less than 500 miles.:tdown:

I'm hoping some of you have kept track on how often you change the o-ring. If so, please post.

So my experience has been put them on, and never look again. If you don't remove the center caps, you will never know if they're cracked or not.

Sorry. No help at all. Aloha hard.

Actually, your post helped a lot. That's what I figured. Out of sight, out of mind.

I erred, mine are worse than cracked. Chunks of rubber are missing. I might experiment with silicone o-rings (higher temp rating). Hopefully, it'll be worth the extra $.

Aloha hard.

O-ring broke and shrank over 2.5 inches! There wasn't much stretch over the center cap and I doubt the wheel temps were that great. I'm guessing sub-par material.

What are the o-rings for? Noise dampening, dust or what? Some of my caps have them, some don't and I haven't noticed any remarkable difference.

Thats pretty much what they are for.

They will rattle if you dont have them on and do keep moisture out.

I just put my center caps on and do need 2-3 large O-Rings my self as one rattles a little

Re: Center cap o-ring

I buy mine from Grainger. About $15 for a bag of 10. I'm not sure how long they last because most of the ones I buy go on other peep's trucks, and I have no idea how long those lasted. My Ty had it's o-rings replaced in 2001. I don't think I've had the wheels off since, so I don't know what condition they are in. Same with my #1230. Those are 15 years old, and the center caps haven't been off the wheels since I put them on in 2004.

So my experience has been put them on, and never look again. If you don't remove the center caps, you will never know if they're cracked or not.

What is the Grainger catalog number? Thanks.
