X2 on torsion bar mounts. Mine went bad and I felt the clunking in the floor board. They're easy to change and common to go bad. I ordered a set from JC Witney a few years back.

well, went out and got torsion bar mounts, new hubs, upper and lower ball joints, control arm bushings, swaybar bushings, inners, outers, idler arm....... $1200

better solve any problems.

Why? Coilovers only delete the torsion bars. What about the rest of the stuff? What happens when he does coilovers and the clunk is still there? There's $$$ down the drain.

^ except he has coilovers! after that it could be simple fixes like cv's or ball-joints. Maybe bushings.

Did you look around for used stuff? i have a bunch of stuff from my c/o swap left over. could have cost you almost nothing for some used California rust free parts.

Re: clunk while turning and bumps

Yea, but that's $1200 and only addressing one possible problem area. That's like saying you're only getting base boost on a stock turbo so you're going to replace it with a GT35r when you could spend the same amount and get a new boost solenoid, vac line kit, silicone couplers, hell probably a new stock turbo, too.

Actually for $1200 you could buy 2 sets of coilovers for the front and still have about $100 left over.

IMO I think it's wise to switch out of the torsion bars to c/o as the point sycho was trying to make was keep the torsion bars equals having to keep up the maintenance on them.

I also think that if you had chosen your parts more carefully, you probably could have saved yourself from spending the amount it costs for coilovers in parts.

But then again, nothing feels much more satisfying than the 'shotgun' approach of replace everything, and everything is fixed, it's pretty hard to lose that way, not counting your wallet.:2cents:

Could have gotten a coil over kit almost for that:(

I could also get a big screen tv for that, as it would have the same effect on the parts I bought. Unless the coil overs replace tie rods, hubs, control arms, pitman arm and idler arm.

I took the shotgun approach to the suspension because the is lot of wear and looseness in the joints, not just for something to do.

Actually a Big screen TV wouldn't reduce your trucks weight by a good 60-80lbs :D
or replace your shocks, improve cornering, and ride quality by leaps and bounds.

Just want to make sure, everyone knows that a working front coilover setup for these trucks costs roughly $550 from Turbotime.

Off topic: Dave P is that a satirical avatar making fun of 'the birthers' or is that actually trying to bring up the hilarious idea that Barack isn't a US Citizen?
I know it's making fun of the security breach at the dinner.

Sorry just found it funny, I assume it's the first.

And it still might clunk when he's through. That's always the best option. Spend as much as you possibly can to not fix the problem. :retarded:

Exactly what kind of maintenance do you have to keep up on with torsion bars? The stock arrangement lasted 16-18 years with minimal to possibly no maintenance. What is there to maintain?

All I see is a coilover kit for $1495 @ RPM. You got a link to this $550 kit?
