Cold Air Intakes (Desperately Need Help Please!)

I own a Sonoma GT, (not sure which number) and I've been looking a lot into performance upgrading and checking prices at atr and the such. Basically it'll cost about 6.5K to get a complete Syclone system up and running. Opening my wallet and finding nothing, I decided I'd do some low end mod's first, starting with the air filter. I have a K&N filter on my stock intake, and I've been desperately searching for a performance cold air intake online and at NAPA stores, and so far I've either come up with nothing or some expensive wrong parts. I searched the forums for a while looking to see if anyone had discussed something like this and from what I've found some people do have a custom intake for their Typhoons and Syclones. If you people are listening, I NEED YOUR HELP. Any advice, who to call where to go, anything would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't know how to make one exactly. I'm not the most car/engine savy person. Is there a guide online for how to make them?

Turbotime.us has a 3" and 4" intake for $135. Would this be what I'm looking for?

Also, does anybody know of a good place to get a piggyback ECU (or is it ECM?) chip for when I finally decide to add on a turbo kit?

making your own will be easy. measure the room and location you want to run this cold air intake . draw a makeup diagram of the engine bay note down on a piece of paper measurments and bends you'll need . then go down to a '' midas '' or other muffler shop
ask the guys nicely if the could bend a piece of 3'' or 4 '' exhaust pipe for you. show em your mesurements . then go to local hardware store and get some rubber joint ends to attach to pipes and filter

When I made mine I used PVC from Home Depot and put it together and cut as as I went along. When it was all in place, I marked the pieces where they were supposed to fit. I then took it off and went to my muffler guy and he bent me one up. Took him like 10 minutes. He had the filter and other rubbers I needed as wwell.

When you say engine bay, do you mean the throttle body? Are there any tutorials online for how to do this, I'm more of a visual learner and I don't want to screw it up, although what you guys are saying makes perfect sense. Would you just recommend a cylindrical K&N Filter to go on the end?

Also, are there any risks or dangers I should watch out for when using their pipes or is it basically the same stuff you'd see on an Apec or Injen cold air intake that a lot of honda's and mitsubishi's use?

Just buy the K&N unit for the CPI motors. Its listed for blazers I think, but will fit any CPI engines. Bolt it on and GO.

A true cold air intake would require drawing in air from outside of the engine compartment.... I'm not familiar with the stock intake system on the SGT...you may be better off with a stock setup as the one you posted likely draws in underhood temp. air.....some people here make a sealed box on the passenger side and graft an inlet on the fender for syty CAI's....I'll be routing a 3" through the pass. side inner fender well using a k&n filter.....I expect to have to shorten the filter downpipe and fab a "wrap around" housing for the filter to prevent slinging water and crap on the filter, before this is all over with....

Thanks Boosted, I went and bought the 1995 blazer cpi model, and it looks like it'll fit perfectly. Thanks for all the other suggestions guys, I actually didn't know you could fabricate your own cold air intake so easily. (I know how to bend pipe and everything, but I was getting impatient). Now on to the next step... exhaust....

Sorry, never took any. When I realized how stupid the setup was I took it off the very day I had it made. It went down to the front bumper and it had staqrted to rain right when I left the shop and I stoped and thought baout what if I hit a puddle of water? So I scrapped it, turn my elbow sideways and made a box for the filter and cut the fender open.

Re: Cold Air Intakes (Desperately Need Help Please!)

Well, I got really close to changing the filter. I bought the 1995 blazer cpi kit, and it will fit well except for these problems that I need help changing. 1) The air temperature sensor won't fit into the gromet and I don't want to try and force it up inside of there. 2) I have the same problem with the vent hose, doesn't fit, and there's no way I can shove that up in there. 3) I'm having trouble mounting the firewall because I think that I either don't have an ABS bracket or it's in a different spot. My Chilton manual didn't help in locating one either. The kit itself will work, if I can get problem 1 and 2 out of the way. I don't know what to do about 3. If I can get a hold of a digital camera I'll post pictures, but that may take awhile. Should I just not put in the firewall or what? I'm at a loss at this point. Excited and now dissapointed.... :(

Isnt the SOGT the same high output 4.3 as the S10, Blazer and Jimmy's? If so, couldnt you find a kit for those? I dont know a whole lot about the SOGT so forgive me if I dont know what I am talking about.

I already considered that, and unfortunately they don't make performance kits for those vehicles of that year that or CPI, just TBI. I figured out how to make the air sensor fit, but I still cant figure out how to place the firewall. The vent hose I'll probably just have to gut and replace with a small one that will fit.

Looks like they have done the tests i did too.
A couple months ago i noticed that the A2A was very hot at the intake part of it although i didnt boost her. Filter is gone and i use a 4# collar to the front , next to the radiator .Same thing here intake temps are high (at the collar) so i have to find a way to make her breath from the outside

If the holes are too small make them larger (drill or grind to enlarge them) or try to see if you can swap part from your original parts. I have no idea what your trying to mount on the firewall, just be creative and mount it.
