That's local to me. I plan to put 2-4k miles a year on it. What things should I be concerned about? What questions to ask? E-rue is local to me to fix things too or guide me at least. Can the boost be turned up from stock safely by a few #s? Opinions?

Ok, I'll spell this out for you. They re dated, the electronics are dated, you can turn up the boost but tuning is everything for these trucks. Stock, or done VERY right on mods (mostly in the tune....). they are expensive to mod cause there are not very many vendors that produce decent stuff, not only that, but large steps have to be taken to put pony down and keep them from braking.

They are NO SVT (less reliable once modded on stock drivetrain). But in capable hands a truck can be quick AND reliable. My suggestion is this, keep it stock with reliability mods, fully stock, or dare i say it, an ls swap for big pony reliability.

This is my opinion, i love these trucks, but they can be bastards. If your looking at a stock truck, leave it that way. They sell for more.

Yeah. Going to talk to e-rue about this truck. He's pretty much the expert in my area.

Thanks for the post. My goal would be to keep it as much like it is now. You can see the mods in the link.

Re: Considering a Ty purchase

These trucks are nothing like fords... They don't auto correct tune for small upgrades and it's hard to find anybody locally most of the time that can tune these trucks or even know what they are.

They have crappy stock n/a 4.3 internals so detonation is death for these things so tune has to be good and bolt ons don't add as much power unless the tune is right which isn't just a reflash unless you go with an emulator.

Drive train wise the awd and the amount of torque these truck make are hard on the transmissions. Trans should shift extra firm. Other then that the front propshaft that connects the front rear to the transfer case eventually becomes a problem if not upgraded. Just something to check out on the truck before you purchase.

Re: Considering a Ty purchase

Good luck on your Ty search.

I hope to be in the market myself, perhaps by May, so I don't want to waste any specific sellers time right now. I have started looking on eBay and AutoTrader for how much they are selling for. I do want one that is as close to stock as possible for all the reasons I've seen in this thread.

I've been wanting a Ty ever since I learned they exisisted. Owning one is now on my bucket list :)

I am not going to be able to work on it much myself - at first - I do have a mechanic that I trust, but he will charge me the going rate! He has helped me keep my SoGT #625 running well. Biggest problem with my SoGT is RUST.

Please post and let all know how your quest progresses.
