my driverside CV shaft popped out today while i was on the freeway, i wanted to know what these shafts do, if they are easily fixed, and if it is expensive to fix.
Thanks

Sounds like something is very worng if the bearing carrier popped out. Like the wrong shaft length.

There should be enough travel in the CV so that if the suspension reaches minimum or maximum travel or your turning or a combination of the two, that carrier should still be retained.

Are you sure that the shaft didn't break?

Anyway they supply power to the front wheels while front wheels are turning left or right and moving up and down.

Without them, you would have a solid straight axle just like the rear differential.

You can buy them from Autozone for about $80 + $70 core charge. You get the $70 back when you return the bad one. So considering the amount of metal you get, it's not a bad price.
