Datamaster

Does anyone happen to use Windows 2000 NT and a Belkin USB adapter with Datamaster. I just spent another half hour getting frostbite trying to connect to the PCM and have had no luck. Am I using the wrong vehicle type? Is the problem that the USB adaptor is labeled COM4 and Datamaster is using COM3? I thought I would ask the experts before I throw the computer against the wall. I do not think my employer would find my frustrations a good excuse for destroying their computer.

I dont have your answer but you definitely need to have Datamaster's ALDL Setup set to the same COM port as the cable is connected to. I've never been a big fan of any "virtual" ports but hey you gotta do what you gotta do, if your laptop doesnt have any real serial ports.

Yup, I've had problems getting Windows apps to see USB virtual COM ports too. Like Tooky said, you definitely need to have the software looking at the right COM port to start with. There were also a few posts about disabling some of the options for better success linking up. I haven't messed with mine since I got it working, so I really can't give you any specifics...

I will look into getting the COM ports to agree. Datamaster only allows me to choose between COM ports 1 & 3 while the virtual port gets set up on COM4. I will see what I can do to convince one or the other to change their minds. Thanks for the help.

I can definitely tell I won't be trying this myself........

Definitely time to pickup a 233/266mhz laptop with true serial port :-?

The Belkin F5U103 works great with Datamaster BUT you have to select Options...Advanced...Disable CCM Handshake from the serial Data Acquisition menu. The next version will have a USB option.. It is in the LT1 beta software now!

FYI, not all USB adapters will work with the GM ALDL because of the unusal baud rate requirement of 8192. The Belkin does...

Hope this helps!

2 I will call ibm tech support for this new laptop since its under warranty.
