Storm Warning

Had the engine rebuilt in the Ty back last March '11 by Canada Engines. Got water in the pan so they yanked the engine and pulled it apart. Found some odd stuff in there from the previous owner. It had TRW std. size pistons but with P-W clearances all over the place. Looked like he had put in the set of Eagle rods with the TRW's maybe from underneath with the truck on a hoist, because it still had the stock GM main bearings. The rod bolts were loose, indicating they had not been torqued properly. The intake manifold bolts looked to have not been torqued down properly as well and this lead to a water leak into the pan while driving home from work one day. Not trying to speak badly about the PO, but while he spent quite a bit of $ on some good parts he also seemed to lack some basic knowledge on the install end of things. :squint:
Anyhow --- the basics on the fresh mill:
- Stock block bored .030", align-honed, ARP main studs
- Icon forged pistons, aprox. 8.8-9.1 CR, Sealed Power rings with Zero Gap 2nd
- Eagle rods
- Turned stock crank .010"/.010", rotating assembly balanced
- Melling Select high-pressure, high-volume oil pump, steel pump shaft
- Cloyes double-roller timing chain/gears
- Stock GM cam core reground to my specs - 206/206 .488"/.488" (w/ 1.6 rocker) 113* LSA ground w/ 3* advance, 110* ICL, new GM roller lifters
- Crane 1.6 roller rockers, 7/16" studs, hardened pushrods, guideplates
- ARP head studs
- L35 heads with new 1.94/1.50 valves, bowl-work on int & exh (by me)
Some other odds and sods like complete new remote oil filter lines, removed the AC system, all new gaskets, etc. Additional mods, most of which were on the truck when I bought it (except for the tires and the new 20G, although it had another 20G on it when i bought it)
- Ultimate Chip for stock injectors (currently have the FP set @ 60 psi), GM 3-bar MAP
- A new 20G turbo with 14cm exh housing, ceramic coated exh housing, larger machined wastegate hole w/ bigger puck, ported outlet, all done by ADP, a local turbo company [which used to employ a fellow named Richard Chan whom I think many of you know on the forums here that had a '91 Syclone]
- Blitz Dual Solenoid Boost Controller
- 255L fuel pump
- HKS Blow-Off valve
- Shur-Flo IC pump
- Big electric fan w/ thermostat control
- March UD pulleys
- BellTech RR swaybar
- ATR Billet AFPR
- KB Lowering blocks & Ranch 5-way adj shocks FR/RR
- 2800-3000 stall converter
- New Hankook 245/16s FR/RR
With the Ultimate set on T1-16 I can bust loose the front tire easily on a good launch on dry pavement.
It runs smooth, with 18 in. of manifold vacuum @ idle, the engine feels very strong even limited to 16 psi boost. I still need to get DataMaster before I do much else however. This past year I did not drive the Ty much since I was driving my '10 Sierra quite a bit. It's great to be putting some miles on the Ty and the fresh mill is breaking in nice. The engine feels strong and it's running very well.
So -- what are you guys doing lately with your trucks? What plans for '12 are in the works? I plan to get my truck to Mission this year for some Friday Night Street Legal Drags. My buddy just bought a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT with the 6.0L engine, he plans to make it out there as well. He also has a an '87 Buick GN and we talk smack all the time. Should be a fun year!
