i called GM earlier to get P+A on a 89 turbo trans am GTA 3bar map (only car that came with them right?) and he asked if mine was the 1st gen or 2nd gen?

he said to look at the map i have now and one of those part #'s would be on it, well i don't own a GTA so now what?

1st gen part number is 16040749

2nd gen part number is 12223861 (if you go online to a GM parts search you will not find the 2nd gen)

which one do i get? and won't i need a plug end for it as well?

This first number you listed is the old number. The second number is the new one.

"MAP sensors, stock 2 bar on left #16009886 and 3 bar on right old number is #16040749 new # is #12223861. On the topside where the plug connects, there is a number for identification. 1 bar MAP=039, 460, 876 or 883. 2 bar MAP=012, 539, 609, 701, or 886. 3 bar MAP=749 or 861. The 4 digit number to the right refers to the date of manufacture "1100"= 2001, 100th day of the year."

Get the newer part number and you won't need the plug. This was discussed awhile back here...

perfect, thanks for those links.

you know i swear sometimes the search does not work on here, i myself along with a couple others have wanted to re find a specific topic, searched and searched and could not find it and then someone comes along and finds it right away.

weird

all i kept finding is posts about using a 3bar and how it made the truck run bad or something

Re: 2 GM part numbers for 3bar map?

ok new question, previous owner said he had a 3bar in the truck and sold it (the map) to a friend who needed it for their turbo car, and said i only needed to buy a new one (map) since it already had a chip for it and he was runnign 20+ psi but i asked what chip it was and asked if he was sure it was chipped to run a 3bar and now he is unsure.

so question being, how can i identify what the CHIP is thats in the computer now? is there a way? to determine if he had it set up for 2bar or 3bar
