Re: Electric fan

the popular ramchargers dual fan setup is inexpensive and a very good fit on a stock syty radiator (see PPI Typhoon's post)....I can't speak for the long term durability or if it pulls super high amps ect. as I've never personally experienced it...Jer is using the taurus fan.....I'm using an older model, narrower corvette radiator (with metal end tanks) that is popular with the V8 S10 crowd.....the best fan I found for that radiator is the volvo recall fan that's all over ebay right now....16" fan and a nice shroud and a great fit....bosch electric motor...3000cfm...should last a long time as it's obviously oem quality and only cost me $65.00....

Re: Electric fan

Those are some pics of the 3.8 Taurus fan. I've had good luck with it in several trucks. It came on several cars in the early-mid 90's....the 3.8 Taurus, the 3.8 powered cougars, and some 3.8 powered lincolns I've found to have it.

A word to the wise if/when you install it....DO NOT run the low and high side togethor at the same time. This will create ALOT of heat in the motor, and it will start to melt things on you. Expect about a 30amp hit when the fan kicks on, and about 18-20amps continuous while running on high. The low side is slightly less than that, but still has a decent hit when comeing on.

I've found that wiring is somewhat simple by using a cheap thermostat from Autozone as the low side controller, and a simple switch in the cab. Using two relays you can make them both easily swithable, and controllable. Also if you have access to chipping software/equipment, you could use the IC pump output to flip a relay for the low side, and the thermostat to flip on the high side. There are about 100 different way to wire it up, just depends on how you want it to run, and how your truck reacts to it. I have yet to find two the like the exact same settings.

Re: Electric fan

I have also heard that the flex-a-lite, 210 series (2500cfm, 19.5 amp) and the black magic xtreme (3300 cfm, 18amp) work very well.

I'm not sure cause the xtreme fan is new but you might have problems with the depth on the unit. It measures 4 3/16th" deep. i tried to measure off the radiator on the truck and it will leave only about a 1/4" between the fan and the water pump pulley.

Re: Electric fan

dude, save the headaches and go with ramchargers. cheap and documented well on this site. of course you could drive to the junk yard and mess with trying to find a ford fan that fits your app well but if you are like me and have a life then go ramchargers. i have about 2 hours in my dual temp/dual speed setup. plus it's super clean. i can pull my radiator in about 5 min... granted there will be trans fluid, oil and coolant everywhere.

Re: Electric fan

yes the Ramchargers fan is an excellent deal. I have both the Taurus fan and the Ramchargers. I chose the ramchargers because it takes virtually 5 minutes to get it attached. No major trimming except for a few tabs. With the taurus fan, I would have spent too much time and It wouldn't have looked as nice. I'm in AZ with 110 degree heat and it keeps it really cool.

Re: Electric fan

When did ramchargers go out of business? WTF. That sucks.
FYI the Ramchargers fan, is a factory Mopar piece off the FWD Intrepids, etc. I don't know if they will be 80.00 anymore.

Re: Electric fan

I think my fan clutch is about to be gone, is there any gains in performance on goin electric than just replacing the clutch? What other stuff besides the electric fan you can add so you wont have to turn it on everytime you drive it. I have a GT Fiero with electric fans and sometimes i forget to turn it on. The heat rises like crazy in minutes.

Re: Electric fan

The previous URL doesn't work, nor do those part numbers come up in their catalog. Here's the correct URL:

http://www.allstarperformance.com

Damn, this is frustrating...all these name changes and shuffling going on, I just want to order this Ramchargers dual-electric fan setup that everyone's raving about. I'm assuming the harness is required to wire this thing up? I'll probably go with one of the progressive controllers. If anyone knows who has one of these "in stock" and ready to ship, please let me know.

Thanks

Re: Electric fan

Excuse my shorthand. I figured "http://www." is automatically assumed...

Again, it is not on their website yet. You have to order by phone. I just ordered this morning and 3 different salesmen said, "This is the Ramchargers fan."

A bunch of people have wired it up without the electrical harness...some have gone progressive like you mentioned.

Re: Electric fan

Awesome news, thanks. One question: if I go with a progressive controller, will I still need the harness?

I just got this fan for my SY. It seems like a great choice to me. The size a little narrow (by 2"...enough for 1" mounting brackets?) but the rest should fit like a glove and it's less tan 4" deep. The CFM and Amp draw both seem real good. He mentioned 3000cfm at 18amps in an Email.
Here's the auction... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8007460929&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

I'll let you know how it goes and try to post pics.
