Re: Electric SYTY Conversion

There are minor things to consider. Air Conditioning? Power Steering? Weight distribution? Safety (that is one hell of a lot of batteries behind you). All this for 30 miles of range. It sounds cool, but the tesla sounds a lot cooler. Oh, and how do you plumb in a turbo?

Damn, that would be a kinda cool project. I have a spare 2WD reg cab shortbox frame too! Just not 8k to spend on making it EV... :( lol That EV datsun is wicked cool though!!!

I owned a '83 S10, for a short while, that was converted over to all electric. I bought it from a tech school that built the sucker. Pretty rad ride.. solid truck!! The bed flipped up and housed the batteries within the frame rails. It was 3 speed stick. Took some ingenuity to build it.. if you ask me. I have pics of it on file at my shop. I'll post tomorrow my brain doesn't fail me. Had the strangest badges on it too... S10 Durango w/ cattle horns.

Yeppers! That's the baby! Ive prob seen or passed dozens of them in time, but never really gave a 2nd glance. Ironically truck was that color blue. Should've grabbed one of the emblems before I sold it. Truck is somewhere in the Southeast.. Florida I believe. It had some odd painting on the tailgate.. like electric truck in words with a lightning bolt or something. Not my style but I kept it the way I bought it.

Im no engineer but, it would seem to me that if you made a big electric motor and had a few batteries, made some alternators that were much deeper than what we are used to seeing and ran 5 or 6 of them, couldn't that keep a pretty long charge? Or does it not work that way?

They can stick me in the bed, shut the tail gate and bury me in mine before I'll give up gasoline. And believe me, we REALLY pay for it over here (currently $12.12 a gallon)....

No, that's for 93 octane. We can get 97 octane over here but that's about another $1.50 a gallon. Makes running the Syclone as a daily pretty hard, but as my other car's a 68 Camaro with a 503hp motor it's kinda the lesser of the two evils!
