Electronic Boost Controller

I have a newby Q. Looking at the wastegate it looks like it is controlled electronically by the ECM. Is there a way to install some type of rheostat control to lower the boost if needed. For the times I have to take it to the shop for bodywork or whatever? I might be way off base but it seems to me it wouldn't be hard to do.

Just unplug the electrical connector from the boost control solenoid on top of the turbo. That will limit boost to arround 8-10 psi.

so i could run a switch to that and have my boost run at 8-10 when off and when on the ultimate would control it

That would be great. But, I would like to cut it down to 2-3lbs if possible. Maybe I'll unplug it for now till I get this new engine broke in. It's just to tempting to stick my foot in it.

if you baught an ultimate you could set the rev limiter to come on at 4200 rpms or limit the boost to what you want. the best deal is buying the ultimate chip like its name states it is awesome. do a search for it in the search tab above and you will like what you see

i've seen a lot of talk about that chip on this board. I did a search and it brought up so many threads it's hard to find one that explains what it does (aside from the usual) and to make the adjustments. Does the manufacturer have a web site that goes into detail about it?

Thanks for the link. I like it! It doesn't look like there is a boost setting below stock though. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but it looks like the valet mode limits RPM only?

You guys had to go and tell me about this thing didn't ya?

You cannot set the boost to below the BASE boost level. The base boost level is what the turbo will produce when you put a boost signal directly to the wastegate actuator. You do this, in effect, when you unplug the wastegate solenoid. To achieve less than the 8-10psi base, you would need to disconnect the wastegate actuator from the wastegate puck lever itself. Truck would be horrible to drive, as the puck would be flapping in the breeze, venting exhaust gases, preventing any spool up of boost.

Kind of a pain to do this. With the Ultimate setup, we set it so that the valet program has low timing, low boost level & boost limiter, a low rev limiter, and I believe we put in richer fueling as well. So it is the next best thing to preventing any boost at all.

hey smeagol, that is a better idea, so with the ultimate i can throw it in valet for drivng around town and then throw it in t2 when i need some power. cool, that was very good info

Damn, you guys had to go and tell me about this thing didn't ya? I want one. Question for smeagol, are any of the settings the exact same as stock? Timing, fuel etc.? I see it says one has stock boost but nothing is mentioned about the others. Can you still use a Diacom with it?

None will be *exact* as stock, as they are 3 bar map sensor calibrations, and the stock uses a 2 bar map sensor.

T1 15psi is as close as you'd get.

Diacom is completely compatible, as is Datamaster etc.

you can get a manual boost controler likr from atr i have one and you can just turn it all the way down gives no boost
