Soon-to-be BoostedBlazer
hi guys. for those who didn't see my first few posts, im building a 355 TPI for my Blazer with boost in mind. i plan on controling it all with the '749, so i joined this board to learn about turbo stuff. that being said, here what i want to do on the bottom end...
-Scat cast steel crank
-Scat 4340 5.7" rods
-TRW-2441pistons
-Total Seal rings
-Clevite bearings
im not sure about the rings; are the gapless better? my plan is to run around 15psi. from what i have read so far, i should have no problem doing that. do you guys think it would be wise to spring for splayed mains? im going studded, so its going to need a line hone anyway. thanks for any info you might be able to provide, Jim.

Re: engine build

Whats your budget on this project? If you can afford it I'd get the splayed mains. The bottom end isnt somewhere to go cheap if the budget allows. I say that because 15psi may become 25psi later on. Its worth it to leave room to upgrade without having to start over.

Re: engine build

25psi...yikes!!! don't think the 700R4 will like that too much. i don't have an endless budget, but id rather not skimp. jegs shows eagle mains for $90, and like i said, its gotta get line honed anyhow. guess i kinda answered my own question. does the block need to be machined for these, or are the mains clearanced for the saddles? i think i can handle drilling and tapping.

also, what is there to know about ring gaps? how much clearance are you turbo guys running? thanks so far...Jim.

It doesnt like a V6 with 15psi, so it probably is going to hate you anyways. :rotf:

Re: engine build

I would also step up to a forged crank instead of cast crank. I was looking into Scat and they told me the max they use a cast carank was 500-550hp (I was looking a 383 and was debating wether or not to use N2O). The are fine for NA strokers, but adding boost you should easily exceed that number.
