Factory Water Temp Guage replacement

Can the Factory water temp guage be disconnected without anything bad happening. We were working on PhoonTy's truck yesterday, he purchased new Autometer guages including a Water Temp guage, and we wanted to know if we can use the factory hole in the block and replace it with the autometer guages sensor. But that would requier disconnecting the factory guage. Will it throw any codes being disconnected?

Or should we find a different place to tap for water temp?

Thanks in advance

Life is beter at 25 PSI
It will work fine, the sender in the block is only used for the gauge. The one on the lower intake manifold is used by the PCM.

Marty,

I got an Edelbrock HiPo Al H2O pump for my rebuild, and it has a ½" hole in the top which U normally plug. I am using it for my Autometer guage.

Truckless. For now.
good deal. we were going to use the port in the passenger side of the block, but we couldn't get the plug out. i don't think my factory gauge works anyway, so looks like we have more work to do marty. :) at least it'll be easy this time, and we don't have to break a tool. wonder what tools we'll find in my engine compartment when we take the driver's side wheel well out.

thanks for the replies guys.

Marty,

There is one other place to put a Mechanical H2O T bulb, if U go w a PTE type Turbo (non H2O cooled). Then U can use the port in the front of the Int. Man. where the Turbo water used to come from.

no PTE for me. my truck is staying pretty much stock. :) the stock water temp location will work good. i don't trust the stock gauges much anyway. thanks for the suggestions though. now marty and i can get back on the gauges and finish them up.
