first kill against '03ish cobra

Well...my friends and I were getting some food hanging out in front of a taco bueno when we see and hear this 03ish mustang cobra drive by. it was a nice maroon color with black wheels. it looked pretty clean. so my friend (driving an '89 gmc suburban) starts up his truck with 2 people in it and i start mine up with a friend in it and we go after this guy. i catch up to him but the light turns green so we keep going. then we hit a yellow/turns red and we stop. i look over at him and this guy is smoking a cig thinking i'm dumb in my little truck or something :rotf: i build some boost at around 2500 rpm and take off once the light turns. well that gets his attention.

so once we hit the next red i lurch forward a little and then he puts out his cig and rolls up his window. that's how i knew it was on...but right when i look up the light turns green. i was able to get my rpm up to about 1800-2000ish and i take off. i jumped ahead about 2 cars and pulled on him and shut it down at about 80. i can hear his supercharger come whining next to us and he flies by. from then on he tried to get me to run him from a roll but i didn't buy. we didn't catch any more reds and he turned off. anyway he has borla(?) exhaust and he's running about 440 horses. it was my first kill so i'm pretty excited. it was really fun and my friend loves my truck now (that was his first time in a ty) :tup:

Nice kill...

I second the Mod list. A stock Ty would get it's butt handed to it by an 03'-04' Cobra. Those cars are no joke.

I know this guy and have run him in about every car ive ever owned. First it was my 87 vette against his 5.0 spanked it. then my 87 vette against his m3 spanked it as well (about 30 times). After that he bought a 99 cobra and then I bought a stock Syclone, spanked it as well by multiple bus lengths. Now hes got a 03 Cobra with pulleys, exhaust, drag radials etc and now im going to have to go spank it, but it looks like Eric beat me to it, good job. Your pretty much stock except for cat back and intake right?

to me... you must have some mods to beat a 03-04 cobra that has mods...lol. expecally pully, exhaust, drag radials. im no ford guy but my friends have those and they are no joke

You know why they are no joke (other than they blow motors left and right) because they were actually putting out around 390 to the wheels from the factory as seen on many hot rod shows. I guess ford has to do that until they can figure out how to put the power to the ground to tell us their real hp ratings. Still my healthy stock Syclone took a stock cobra past 80mph, they are very quick but not untouchable.

X2. I shocked a 03 cobra to about 80mph. I was behind him and had to let off at or I was going to rear end him. Once we got on the freeway it was on..till we hit traffic. I would say we would be even till 90 then it would take me. BTW my truck was stock with reliability mods at the time.

True they under rated them from the factory but what auto maker doesn't do that.. example syclone, typhoon, buick grand national etc.. so it's not a Ford thing.

Also I've never seen them blow motors left and right.. I have three close friends with them and all have mods and don't have to worry about the quarter of the crap we have to worry about.. guess that's what forged internals striaght from the assembly line gets you huh.

i did not say that. i got a small amount of boost and i had him until about 75-80 then he came by pretty quick. i think it would've been a better race if i got more boost and there wasn't a dip in the intersection we went through. so yes...he has a really fast car but i had him until about 80.

Good kill.. I agree without dr's you'll school em everytime out of the whole and force em to play catch up.

I have a friend who has a steeda cai, pulley, programmer with dr's and runs consistent 11.66's at the track.

i got my butt handed to me on the street by an 03 with DR's. got him about 3/4 car off the line then he just blew by me. i got exhaust, ext wastegate, and kn cone.

i have never heard of one blowing up either... unless it had more than 900 or so HP. they are the easiest car to mod i know of, super cheap to make one faster but about the worst in traction from the factory period.

i have no doubt he held it off till bout 80 bc these trucks launch so good but much past that and the tide probably would have turned.....

Yeah it is nice that they have forged internals, but for some reason when I was considering buying one, I searched for videos of them and found a quite a few of cobras blowing the motor. Even some of the guys that have them say they are time bombs. But then again you've gotta figure a ford motor + lots of boost=explosion. Most of this is probably due to everyone who has one running the piss out of the motors.

I never hear about them blowing up either, FWIW, Ive raced 3 SC Cobras around here and all three of them had DR's. When I had the stock turbo, reliability mods, EBC etc., I took one pretty far. At the end of a 1/4 run my front bumper was right at his rear bumper. All the other ones Ive raced have been about the same, pass me when Im doing about 90.

I've seen countless videos of 99 cobras blowing head gaskets etc which aren't even close to what the terminator cobras are. I've also seen where the terminator cobra motors have been proven to hold 600hp before having problems which is why most swap in the kb blower and yank the boost up or bolt a turbo on in favor of the blower
