Found out where my power went!

My truck has been down on power for a long time now so I finally did a compression test. The #3 cylinder only had 40 psi and the #4 cylinder was only 90 psi. The remaining cylinders were all around 125 psi. The funny part is that the truck actually runs pretty good. It has no power but untill I get around to rebuilding the motor I can still drive it for now when I need to. I'm not planning on going crazy with the rebuild. The only parts that I plan on upgrading will be the rods and pistons This is not a daily driver but I still want it to be right so after the holidays I'll probably get started.

Tell your wife/gf/so to get you another set of jackstands for xmas.

You need to be careful driving it. I was extremely lucky that mine didn't scratch the cylinder walls at all when I broke the ring land in #3. If you drive it to much, depending on what's wrong with the piston you could be digging into the cylinder. If it really digs into it you'll be looking at another block to add to the parts list. Better just start taking it apart now to make sure how much you'll need in the rebuild.

It would probably be a good idea to pull the motor out now and give my wife the Christmas list... pistons, rods, bearings, rings, gaskets, etc...etc.

Re: Found out where my power went!

I really don't plan on doing much above stock other than putting some good pistons and rods in it. I don't want to make this thing a race truck and I would like to keep it as original as possible. I have a few toys that I'm working on and the timing for this rebuild kind of sucks but I'm not going to be taking any shortcuts either. Haven't decided if I want to use the stock heads or upgrade to the Vortec style. I would really be happy to have the truck back to factory running condition and leave it that way. The only thing aftermarket on my truck is the air filter and turbo timer.
