Front Diff not engaged -- WTF

With all the snow Michigan got lastnight, I now realize that I'm not in AWD anymore.

I know this topic has been addressed before, but a search has come up with nothing.

New propshaft, front diff bushings okay. Trans case oil is fresh and was clean.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Merk,

U may have snapped the chain in your Transfer Case, or your TC isn't transmitting power 4 some other reason.

U might be able to jack up the truck and see if the front wheels R driving ?

I fought this same problem when I first got my Sy. Ended up being the small retainer clip located on the end of the pass side front axle. When this wears out, it will allow the axle to slide out of the front diff by about 1 inch. This is just enough to disengage the splines on the axle from the splines in the differential.

It's easy to check if this is the prob. Just jack up the front of the truck and push on the pass side axle flange towards the center of the truck. If the axle slides more than .5" or so into the front diff, then your retainer clip is probably worn and has allowed the axle to slip out. Just a thought.

BTW, if you do a search of my old posts, you'll see a couple lengthy ones on this issue. The part no. for the clip is there as well if that ends up being your problem.

HTH,
