Front Diff trouble

I was planning on removing the front diff to replace the oil pan gasket. Problem is after hours of bolts fighting me I realized that it looks impossible to remove from the bottom with the front suspension in place. am I missing something or do I just need to pull the engine? It is worth noting that there is no body on this TY at all so removing the engine will be easy, If I had a hoist. I have been lucky up until now and been able to borrow one. The guy I used to borrow it from just sold it last week. This is why I did not pull the engine in the first place. It has been a horrible weekend with very little progress. This was all I worked on. I am a noob to the TY but the 2wd S-series I know like the back of my hand. What are the secrets if any to removing the front diff????

Re: Front Diff trouble

At this point I will probably borrow a hoist and pull the motor. I only have the motor mount bolts and tranny bolts to contend with. Everything else is off. It's comforting to tee that I am not the only one who thinks the front diff setup is a PITA. I will change the fluid though to help prevent having to remove it later for a rebuild. At least it will make me feel better anyway.

Re: Front Diff trouble

I second this..its really that easy..I've taken mine out a few times and can have it out on the floor in less than an hour.... I cut a 1/2 inch off a few of the housing bolts and it slides back in without hitting the oil pan...
