Fuel canister delete

So im having some work done on the Ty and as I was deleting some abs wires I thought to myself in my best professional sounding inner voice
"do I really need this can?"
Or is there a more clean set up I can install? Really hate how the line just go there wraped around stuff, looks disgusting.
Also!
Steering pump cooling lines, I hate those too.
Are they worth keeping? I drive the Ty now just on weekends and wont use it as a DD anymore, when I do drive it I put maybe 15 miles a day.
Should I keep these 2 things?
Yes?
No?
Why?
Thanks for any input fellas

Re: Fuel canister delete

I would keep the power steering lines. You can delete the charcol fuel cannister. I never had a problem when I deleted mine, but I did put a check valve on the end. People say that you let the truck sit long time without the can you an smell gas but I have never had that problem.

No problems here either, and I passed emissions (with no EGR or cat either!)

Re: Fuel canister delete

Ive tried to search but I cant find if someone ever compared the temp difference the steering cooling lines make.
Has anyone ever deleted them or upgraded in any way?
Main reason why I want to remove the cooling lines is looks, if my truck is done by friday ill try to find a way to check the temp with and without lines, ill just bypass them, lets see just how good these lines are.

So you bypassed the canister or completly plugged the lines?

Re: Fuel canister delete

Syclone's don't have PS cooling lines and seem to do OK. You can't plug the line at the canister because, I think, it's the tank vent. So that means you have to vent the tank somewhere. Or use a vented cap if they're available.

I want the canister and lines all gonne, I was thinking plug the intake and plug the tank and now (thanks to your new info) get a vented cap for the tank. My tank is comming down tomorrow, fixing a gas leak, every time I pump more than $40 of gas this strong gas smell surrounds the truck, specially when I make a sharp turn, when i tried to fill the tank the gas would start pouring out from somewhere on the top of the tank. Just trying to fix the little problems that my truck has had for a long long time and eliminating dead weight and things that I dont really need/use in the process.
Thanks for the info!

Just do us and you a favor and have a fire extinguisher handy. You can clean the canister. While apart check for plugged lines, broken/cracked vent line etc. If it's working normally you shouldn't smell gas.

Re: Fuel canister delete

I think the tank has a hole or something, the smell comes from the back, its way stronger on the back side of the Ty, ill post pics of the problem when I find it.

Not sure if it matters to you or not, but if you take the charcol canister out you won't pass visual SMOG and neither will a vented cap, just an FYI.

Re: Fuel canister delete

I have the RPM intake pipe, I might cut down the fender wells a bit to, something custom that I thought about long time ago.

Looking good bro... I think the smog aspect of deleting everything sucks... With this new STAR smog nazi crap we will all be scrambling to get our trucks to pass... I might have to buy a stock "Smog" Syclone to take care of the homies , lol...

As for deleting everything... I was going to do the same but part of me wants my Sy to have most of the smog stuff... With my intake manifold, EGR is pretty much a no-go... I was thinking about fabricating something that looks like the EGR is part of the truck, if you catch my drift... And you can take it off when it is not smog time...

See ya,

It's not bad if you take your truck to a shop that doesn't know what they are looking at and it's not obviously modded. I just passed smog a month ago under the Star thing and I'm not stock at all. If anyone is near Fullerton, I can get you the address to the place I went to.
