Fuel Pump? Running, then sputtered and stalled out.

I was working in the garage today, and had the truck out idling. Ran fine, sputtered, then quit. Tried to restart, and it only cranks. It has about a 1/4 to 1/8 tank of gas.

When I turn the key on, the FP gauge does not really move. So I am thinking that either the fuel pump took a shit, or ran out of gas? The fuel pump is a Warlboro unit that is probably about 7-8 years old.

Thoughts as to what to try next? I might try and put some fuel in it, but like I said it is reading 1/4 to 1/8 tank of gas.

Uh get a fp gauge , hook it up to the rail and roll the key into the on position and compare with specs. If below specs pump no good. Replace sending unit with a Dorman unit for our trUcks if it hasn't been done already because chances are you will ruin the lines/twist them when removing it due to rust AND follow that up with a walboro 255 pump or aeromotive 340. IF THE TACH doesn't jump when you crank it I do believe the ignition module is bad! Anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Update, added some gas and she fired right up. Damn fuel gauge, must not be very accurate when it is low. Let it run, filled up the tires and drove it for a few hours and it runs great.

lol. So you're truck is like mine too eh? Mine apparently magically produces it's own gas in the tank sometimes. It's awesome to remember having a 1/4 of tank last time you drove it and the next time it's up to a full tank!

My fuel gauge was erratic (too quick to empty) sometime took awhile to register full. Found a solution on the internet and put in a bottle of Techron at each of the last two tankfuls and guage started operating normally after the first tankful! I was skeptical but it worked!
