i have a good friend of mine that has a this turbo it came off of a 99 powerjoke and i can buy it form him for $50 just because he no longer has the truck. turbo was removed for an aftermarket piece. i just want to know if it is work it to put it in my Blazer. the only specs i know about it is it has a 1.10A/R cold side and a .84 hot side. i am running a 2001 5.3 with a E85 tune. i am only wanting to push 450hp. any reason i should pass this up and wait on a holset turbo off of a cummins?

Re: Garrett GTP38 turbo?

i know i can get 450 N/A but there are a few reasons why i just want it turbo'd. 1: i am under the impression that it will be considerably cheaper for me to go turbo than N/A ( if i am sadly mistaken please correct me :) ) 2: running the exhaust will be much easier turbo'd than N/A. and 3: ( this is my age showing) i just want to have a turbo. lol.

truck is a 5 speed with a bravada T-case..

also only reason for wanting those hp #s is because of the trans... i dont trust it with 450 much less the 600 i really want...

Re: Garrett GTP38 turbo?

so i found out what i actually wanted to know not opinions on whether i should do it or not from my cousin. (no offence but i wanted information). and the GTP38 is not the turbo i should use because of the hot side, its too big and wont come alive until 25+ psi. so he hooked me up with a holset HX35 6 blade. its good for 60lbs/min. all i have to do is get a .70 A/R exhaust housing from bullseye power...

You are sadly mistaken. Turbo will cost a lot of extra money for a lot of reasons.

Ok, your mistaken. You could get a used cam on the cheap, and ls6 intake port it, and then all you need is exhaust and tune for the most part. Might need injectors but dont think so.

2: running the exhaust will be much easier turbo'd than N/A..

Wrong again. With the turbo your going to have to make/buy custom headers/downpipe/with wastegate/crossoverpipe/and the rest out the back or dump it. With N/A i bet you could find some headers and just have them tweaked/modded a little to fit, and then the rest out the back.

And here is the last clue, trubos work great with autos, not manuals. While it may be fun to have 450hp turbo.... if you had 450hp N/A i bet it would be faster. your also going to want to pick up a BOV or make sure your turbo has the anti/surge front/cold side housing on it with a manual. And what are you going to do about a boost controller... Thats about $300-600, unless you want your to stay super cheap and get a 10 manual boost valve?

Wow, people are giving you information... And your not taking it.

Do what you want man, its your toy. You said you wanted a turbo, get a turbo. But you can get the power you want for cheaper, more simple, and have a more reliable build. That might take you a weekend tops to do.

Re: Garrett GTP38 turbo?

if someone has taken a 5.3 and pulled 450 awhp out of a cam, intake, injectors, tune. great i will do that no problem. i have lurked on ls1forum and really have not found anyone who has that power with bolt-ons. maybe im just not looking in the right spots. i know its not going to launch with a manual nor do i want it to.

I'll chime in. Hit up the S10forum, guys there are doing all kinds of stuff with LSX motors and look up some of the builds that Hot Rod, Super Chevy, and Chevy High Performance have done.
